Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
Sorry I don't see the issue discussing Pineda's velocity as of 3/15 in the Michael Pineda Performance Thread
Here is the "Countdown to Opening Day - A Jorge Posada Tribute"

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
i remember posting a link to espn's dear willy talking about pineda's cutter in the 90-91 range and saying if that's his real velo we are pretty ................ed. this was shortly after his first start.

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
To respond to your edit I've responded to this type of dishonest argumentative rhetoric already.
There is no need to overreact because it is highly unlikely he lost his velocity in 1 off season but there is no issue in discussing specifically in the "Michael Pineda Performance thread."
There is a difference.

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
well we are having this discussion and i'm among the people saying it is not a big issue right now, so no need to talk about it before we see something more definitive.
a position can be validly calling for the ending of a discussion.
btw thanks for providing a topic for ~srs research~ into the intricacies of self referencealways reasonable

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
I don't think it's a big issue either and I waited till today(his 3rd start) to even put forth an opinion but I on the other hand see no problem discussing it or talking about it.
It's a Yankee forum where people discuss and talk Baseball and specifically Yankee baseball at that.
People don't need to wait for more information to discuss the velocity they see from the game Pineda just pitched.
Just like people wouldn't need to wait to discuss if a Yankee did something awesome on the field.

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
If he's throwing 91-92 on April 7, 8, 9 or whenever his first start is, I will worry. Not worried on March 15 because he isn't throwing 95.

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
His slider is flat out nasty and his command seems relatively sharp for this time of year. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't mind seeing the velocity up a few ticks but I'll worry about that if he's still sitting at 91 at the end of ST.
David Ortiz tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003.

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
his slider has been a treat to watch. If he can locate, I'm not worried about velocity.

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
in all seriousness, while he may do well in short spurts with the slider and a declined velo fastball, given the yankees commitment to him it is very bad for him to experience a drastic decline in velo. it not only portends future performance decline, but also shows sign of injury.

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
Or that he's still building arm strength which is evident in the increased velocity over each of his starts

Re: 2012 Michael Pineda Performance Thread
Pineda did not pitch in Winter Ball.
Michael Pineda, never throwing winter ball, was in the mid 90s in spring last year. Now he is averaging 91. Holding back? Ok, but why not start loosing it up?“I’ll go to the Dominican and stay with my family … I’ll be working to get ready for next season, resting my arm. I’ve never thrown winter ball. Never. I want to pitch in my city in the Dominican, but maybe later. I threw a lot of innings this year.”
This year, I’m a little stronger than last season,” said Pineda, who went 8-1 with a 2.22 earned-run average last year at Double-A West Tennessee and 3-3, 4.76 at Triple-A Tacoma. “I didn’t pitch winter ball this offseason. I worked very hard to be ready.”
