I'd tend to agree. I think it's possible that Garcia will be about the same, but very unlikely that he'll be only a little worse. He's a junkballer whose success depends on his being able to walk a tightrope, which means that if he falls, he'll fall hard.

    Cool.

I guess we don't have to have a prediction contest this year. I was wondering how to find time to get it done anyway.

    Kudos to this Thread.

Oh crap! I'm sorry! I forgot about that thread because I joined too late into last season to be part of it.

Many posters aren't saying what they think, so you still probably could do that thread.

Re: NYYF 2012 Player Prediction Thread

The offense will generally be around the same as last year. Montero for a full season will be a HUGE improvement over what we had at DH last year. Guys like Gardner, Swisher, Martin, Cano will likely put up similar numbers. I expect Granderson to dropoff somewhat. Jeter will probably be somewhere in between the guy we saw in the 1st half (horrible) and the guy we saw in the 2nd (awesome). Teixiera? Well it cant get any worse (can it)? I have to think the BA will go up, but I need to see it before I believe it. ARod will be better, if he can stay on the field in good health.

The bullpen will be excellent. Mo will be Mo. DRob was historically good last year, so you would have to expect a dropoff....but he'll still be one of the best setup guys in baseball. Soriano will have a big bounceback year and resemble the reliever he was in 2010. The Yanks will have the best 7-8-9 tandem in baseball by a wide margin. Girardi usually pieces together a good middle relief staff, whether its via unknowns or minor league guys....and I expect him to do the same again. Joba will provide a spark when he returns in the summer.

The rotation? Sigh....oh boy. CC will be his usual self, 20 wins, ERA somewhere around 3. I think Nova will have a good year albeit a slight dropoff from last year. Garcia I expect to dropoff and have an ERA somewhere north of 4. Burnett and Hughes will both be terrible....Burnett will unfortunately stay in the rotation because of his salary. Hughes will lose his spot. The Yanks will tryout Noesi/Phelps/Warren, ultimately realizing they likely will need to make a deadline trade for another solid starter.

    Tex - better
Montero - good, but not as good as expected
    Swish - the same
    Martin - a little better
    Gardner - the same

    CC - a little better
    Nova - a little worse
    AJ - the same
    Garcia - a little worse
    Hughes - better
the pen - about the same

Hey, I think the team wasn't playing up to potential last year. I'm thinking they can turn it around this year. You have a little more confidence behind CC with knowing about what you're going to get from Garcia and Nova is a bit more of a known quantity, now.

97 wins and they can turn it around? Doesn't that mean they'll be bad?

On a player to player basis. Jeter and Cano (as far as I can remember) were the only guys who were raking until late in the season. It seemed pretty sub-par for most. The hardest was watching CC crash towards the end.

Doesn't a player to player basis add up to a team? Which did not underperform?

I seem to remember at least one other guy, played center field, I think.
