Dave Righetti?? DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH.
That guy blew game after game, always pitched from behind, and gave up at least as many hits as innings pitched. He was mediocre as an RP; Piniella just used him a lot.
BTW, Wilcy Moore was the Yankees relief pitcher in 1927. Yes, they had one, and he did a great job.

Wilcy Moore had one outstanding season, and gained noteriety for two things: his W-L record and the bet he won with Babe Ruth.
How this list includes Arrojo, Duren and Page and not Steve Farr befuddles me. I tellya I'm befuddled!
Maybe it was the loss to Oakland ...SanFrANSKY

Relief pitchers didn't have too much longevity in days past.
Luis Arroyo had one good year (1961), and Marshall Bridges (1962) also had one good year. Same with Joe Black of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1952.

I thought about Farr, believe it or not. Maybe he'd be #11 for me?
How can you not have Rags on the list Elm?
1984-1990 MOST SAVES
1 Jeff Reardon 224
2 Dave Righetti 223
3 Lee Smith 218
4 John Franco 181
5 Dave Smith 164
6 Tom Henke 153
T7 Bobby Thigpen 148
T7 Steve Bedrosian 148
9 Dennis Eckersley 142
10 Jay Howell 133
I don't care if they may not have been pretty. He was the best at his peak.

Steve Hamilton and Lindy McDaniel always will have a good place in my memory of Yankee RP's.
BTW, Sparky Lyle did win the AL Cy Young in 1977, but Gossage (with Pittsburgh) had MUCH better stats, and that's why Sparky went "from Cy Young to Sayonara", in Nettles' words.

This forum could really use some ALL YANKEE OPPONENTS threads: All-Time, and for certain classic years such as '41. '50, '61, etc. I'd try it myself. . . if I could find the time!
