56 is a stastical anomoly.
Technical point but Ruth only had 659 Yankee HRs, 49 were with the Sox and 6 with the Braves.
I think I'd still go Ruth.Baseball is life;

I know you only copied the data, but Babe Ruth did not hit 714 HR for the Yankees. he hit 659 HR for the Yankees. So if you consider Jeter's 3080 hits to be the Yankee record for this poll, then Ruth's HR total should be 659.

What about Carl Pavano's days on the DL for a 4 year multi-million dollar contract record?

DiMaggio, it's an MLB record that still stands after 70 years. No one's ever really gotten close.

Re: MLB.com Question of the day - Greatest Yankee Record?
I don't think so.
Players today have trouble PLAYING in 56 straight games.
This is unlike other records, like 72 homers in a season or what I like to call "Totals Records".
It takes 56 days to tie this record. Whether you get 6 hits in a day or one - it still only counts towards the record as 1....Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.

Re: MLB.com Question of the day - Greatest Yankee Record?
But 44 is still 12 away from tying -- almost two more straight weeks getting a hit every day.
it seems close, but it's 21.4% away. An equivalent is hitting 57 HR when the record is 73. Or winning 401 games when the record is 511.
Or nearly the difference between 601 saves and 478 saves (2nd and 3rd).

Re: MLB.com Question of the day - Greatest Yankee Record?
How come no one is listed Lou Gehrig's 23 grand slams? That record is even older than DiMaggio's
