That's pretty cool. I don't get the whole Twitter thing, but in this case, it sure paid off. I bet they just gained a few more customers.

They got about $50,000 of free publicity for that $200(?) of steak with delivery by a guy in a tux. Smart initiative

I'm not as "floored" about it as this guy, getting a steak delivered on a lark isn't exactly earth shattering

Guy seems to be a bit of a d-bag but it is a great customer service story.

    Agreed.

He can swear all he wants that this wasn't set up and he didn't think they would really do it, but it seems fishy. How did the guy know where to go? Newark isn't exactly a small airport.

The guy is a regular, they probably have his info and contacted his secretary for the details

Bingo, and I bet his account has a media/blogger red flag on it. The 10K follower thing OBVIOUSLY made a difference; I can't believe those suggesting otherwise are serious.

I don't think this is the best customer service stories ever, but it definitely is one of the best stories about unique/productive uses of Twitter.

They have a spectacular Customer Relations Management system in place, as well as a spectacular social media team, and they know when I call from my mobile number who I am, and that I eat at their restaurants regularly. Never underestimate the value of a good CRM system.
This dude is a major marketing consultant, nice PR buffer. Article did get me hungry, though.

Guy comes off as a little pompus, I don't really care about how some exec got Mortons to deliver a porterhouse to him at the airport.

Seems pompous? Why? Because his job requires him to fly on planes? Give me a break.

I "met" this guy (Shankman) on a NYC Marathon forum in 2006 when we were both getting ready to run the marathon for the first time. He's also appeared on the O'Reilly Factor a few times as a PR consultant.
