Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
I’m ticked off at AOL. Do I really need to see a picture of that poor fan about to be in mid-fall? That’s just inappropriate knowing what happens. Maybe the barriers should be raised in ballparks – this shouldn’t happen, ever.
Awful............and I have no desire to watch the video

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
Yeah there's no reason that video should be available.
This is one of the saddest stories of the year. That poor kid who saw his dad fall to his death at a baseball game. I also feel bad for Josh Hamilton.

The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
I hope Hamilton gets through this. Just tragic.
Somehow I think Grandy and Swish may stop throwing balls in to the stands on the 3rd out.

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
Even after his fall, the father's only concern was for his son, asking that somebody please take care of him. It was amazing that he was still conscious at that point. A few of the Rangers who were interviewed after the game broke down. I can't even imagine what Josh Hamilton is going through right now.
I think this is the 2nd time a fan has fallen from the stands at this stadium. The railings that I've at seen at ballparks only come up to about your waist. It's high enough for a little kid to walk under it. If you raise the railing, it might stop an adult from falling, but then there's even more of a chance of a child going undernearth it. Unless they put some kind of screen or mesh between the top of the railing and the floor of the stands, it won't do any good to raise the height.September 28, 2008 - the day the HOF got a wake-up Moose call.

I heard about this on the radio this AM. Awful!!!

I feel terrible for the man's family and his little boy who had to see the whole thing. Also, poor Josh Hamilton, ugh.

He fell into the gap between the stands and the scoreboard so you don't actually see the actual impact. Poor kid, ugh.
Is there video of the interviews?

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
Incredibly sad story. I can't imagine what his family is going through, and especially how his son must feel. He'll probably never watch another baseball game for the rest of his life. Just tragic.
RIP. Thoughts and prayers.

What a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved, I have no idea how they'll recover from this.

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
Very, very sad. Tragic for the family, awful for Hamilton. I am sick to my stomach after just watching the video. I thought it was just the story, then they showed it, the media should be so ashamed for having that up.
Makes you realize just how unimportant baseball is.....Goin for 2<strike>7</strike>8!

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
Video's not even that bad. It only shows the part of him falling down and you can't see the rest of it.
Very sad indeed. Poor kid.

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
I don't have a problem with them showing video, it is news.
Very sad story and feel terrible for that poor kid, Josh Hamilton and the rest of dead man's family. Very tragic.
I imagine they will put some kind of saftey netting between the stands and wall to cover the gap but too late for this poor fellow.Baseball is life;
the rest is just details.

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
This is so sad -
The visitor's bullpen at the stadium is in left-center field. Athletics reliever Brad Ziegler was in tears after the game when he found out the man had died.
"They had him on a stretcher. He said, 'Please check on my son. My son was up there by himself.' The people who carried him out reassured him. 'Sir, we'll get your son, we'll make sure he's OK,'" Ziegler said. "He had his arms swinging. He talked and was conscious. We assumed he was OK. But when you find out he's not, it's just tough."

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
Again, they had no idea the guy was falling to his eventual death. The announcers were even joking about it and really paid no attention to it other than saying "Hope he isn't hurt." Sadly, it was bound to happen eventually; wouldn't be surprised if throwing balls deep into the stands was now against stadium safety regulations.

Re: Fan Dies After Falling Over Railing
Baseball is heaven to so many but now, it is one family's personal hell.
So incredibly sad.
Shannon Stone, was a fire fighter. He put his life on his line for his job yet, ends up dying at a baseball game. Apparently, almost exactly a year ago another fan fell from the stands at Rangers Ballpark. Thankfully he survived but, ironically, he was also a firefighter.
