Excellent news. It should have happened after the World Cup....and after the embarassing performance in the Gold Cup, it absolutely had to happen. Good riddance. I never liked his coaching style at all whether it was his boring strategies, or the use of certain players.

PLEASE bring in Klinsmann. Give him full power, let him revamp our system from the ground up, and we'll have a shot at becoming a world power. We have the resources, we certainly have the population. Its all about how we develop our players. Klinsmann understands that.

I liked Bob Bradley for installing that never-say-die grit to the USMNT.

But as far in terms of technique and communication skills, we need a change.

I'm with you Mike, we need Jurgen Klinsmann.

Jurgen Klinsmann joining the United States isn't the only coaching change for teams before having their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying processes.

Sergio Batista won't join Argentina's qualification quest in Octobber 2011.
Batista was fired after Argentina's disappointing showing in the 2011 Copa America Tournament.

Argentina named Alejandro Sabella as his replacement.

2014 FIFA World Cup qualification - Europe (UEFA)

From FIFA.com, BBC Sport and globo.com

    Current round: UEFA First Round

    Teams: 53

    Format:
All 53 UEFA national teams entered qualification, and 13 teams will qualify for the 2014 World Cup. The draw for the qualification groups will be held at the World Cup Preliminary Draw at the Marina da Glória in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 30 July 2011.
    http://globoesporte.globo.com/futebo...a-de-2014.html

The qualification format will be the same as 2010. The teams will be split into eight groups of six teams and one group of five. The nine group winners will qualify directly to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and the eight best runners-up (determined by records against the first-, third-, fourth- and fifth-placed teams only for balance between different groups) will be drawn in two-legged play-offs to determine the other four qualifying nations.
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9431603.stm

The matches are scheduled to be played between 7 September 2012 and 15 October 2013.

    UEFA Seeding - First Round
The July 2011 FIFA Ranking was used to seed the teams.

    - In consideration of the delicate political situations of the relationships between Armenia and Azerbaijan as well as between Russia and Georgia, UEFA have requested that FIFA maintain the current UEFA policy to not draw these teams into the same qualification groups. Armenia and Azerbaijan are in the same pot and therefore cannot be drawn together. The mechanism for keeping Russia and Georgia apart will be confirmed by the FIFA Organising Committee on 29 July 2011 once the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for July 2011 has been established and the respective pots for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia and Georgia confirmed.

    Ranking of second-placed teams
Because one group has one team fewer than the others, matches against the sixth-placed team in each group are not included in this ranking. As a result, eight matches played by each team will count for the purposes of the second-placed table.

Continental Playoffs - UEFA Second Round:
The 8 best group runners-up will contest the second round ("continental play-offs"). The 8 teams will be paired into 4 home-and-away series. The 4 winners will qualify for the World Cup.

2014 FIFA World Cup qualification - South America (CONMEBOL)

    From FIFA.com

    Teams remaining: 9

Current and future formats: Group Stage and Inter-Confederation Play-Off
    http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/tour...uthamerica.pdf

Note: Brazil automatically qualified as hosts.

    Format - Group Stage
As Brazil automatically qualified as hosts, the other nine CONMEBOL national teams will compete for the 4.5 places available. The format is identical to the previous four World Cup qualification tournaments held by CONMEBOL, with all competing nations playing each other home and away in a single group.

In qualification for recent World Cup finals tournaments, the CONMEBOL nations have had four direct qualifiers, with a fifth nation competing in a play-off with a team from another confederation. The same number of spots have been retained for the 2014 tournament, despite Brazil's automatic qualification as the host nation.

The order in which the matches will be played is the same as used in qualification for 2006 and 2010. The exception is that, due to Brazil not participating in the qualifiers (as they are already qualified as the host nation), the other national teams will have 2 matchdays of inactivity instead of a match against Brazil.

The fifth-placed team of CONMEBOL will compete in the inter-confederation play-offs with a team from another confederation, which will be either AFC's fifth-placed team, CONCACAF's fourth-placed team or OFC's first-placed team, to be chosen through a random draw, rather than being decided by FIFA beforehand as in previous tournaments (e.g., 2010 against a team from CONCACAF, 2006 against a team from OFC).

2014 FIFA World Cup qualification - Oceania (OFC)

From FIFA.com, Oceaniafootball.com and other sites

    Teams remaining: 11

    http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/tour...es_oceania.pdf
Current and future format: OFC First Round, OFC Second Round, OFC Third Round and Inter-Confederation Play-Offs

    Format:
The initial format was scheduled to begin in August 2011 at the 2011 Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia, where the men's football tournament was to double as the first stage of the OFC World Cup qualifying competition.
However, in June 2011 the format was amended, and the Pacific Games were no longer part of the qualification process.
    http://www.oceaniafootball.com/ofc/N...S/Default.aspx

The new structure sees the four lowest ranked entrants play a single round-robin tournament from 21–26 November 2011, likely to be held in Samoa. The top team in this tournament will then join the other seven teams in the 2012 OFC Nations Cup, scheduled for Fiji from 1–12 June 2012. The four semi-finalists from that tournament will advance to Round Three.

Round Three, consisting of a double round-robin held on a home-and-away basis, would take place between 7 September 2012 and 26 March 2013. The Round Three winners will compete in the inter-confederation play-offs with a team from another confederation, which will be either AFC's fifth-placed team, CONCACAF's fourth-placed team or CONMEBOL's fifth-placed team, to be chosen through a random draw, rather than being decided by FIFA beforehand as in previous tournaments (e.g., 2010 against a team from AFC, 2006 against a team from CONMEBOL).
    http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/federa...d=1392053.html

The winner of this qualifying stage will advance to the 2012 OFC Nations Cup, scheduled for Fiji from 1–12 June 2012, , to join the other seven teams which receive a bye into the second Round. The Nations Cup will serve as the second round of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

    Teams
    American Samoa
    Cook Islands

The four semi-finalists (the top two teams from each group) will advance to the third round. The groups will be drawn at the World Cup Preliminary Draw at the Marina da Glória in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 30 July 2011.

    Seeding and Pots
The teams will be seeded into two pots of 4 based on the July 2011 FIFA World Rankings - with the first round winner automatically seeded eighth. Each group will consist of two teams from each pot.

    Future round: Inter-Confederation Play-Offs
The winner of the OFC qualification tournament will play either AFC's fifth-placed team, CONCACAF's fourth-placed team or CONMEBOL's fifth-placed team (to be determined in a draw) in a home-and-away play-off. The winner of this play-off qualifies for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.
