Atlanta Braves Troubles
Atlanta Braves have had their fair share of troubles of late. Most recently with Derek Lowe being arrested for drunked driving. Now Braves pitching coach Roger McDowell is on admin leave after a pretty ugle altercation involving a fan and a rampage of homophobic slurs. This was also on ESPN yesterday.

The question was asked, "what would you do with Roger McDowell?"
This is what happened with McDowell regarding the homophobic situation at the game:

Re: Atlanta Braves Troubles
I would also add, "anger management" to his "training."

I think he should be told, in no uncertain terms, "No more spitting."

Re: Atlanta Braves Troubles
What a total douche. People like him make me sick. I believe strongly in free speech (even when I find that speech repugnant), but he was "on the clock." Nobody can talk like that in the context of the workplace and get away with it. They did the right thing in suspending and fining him.

Re: Atlanta Braves Troubles
I went with suspend/fine/sensitivity training, but in honesty I think he should probably be fired. For the content of his actions and the context. That's unacceptable.

Re: Atlanta Braves Troubles
I lean toward this as well. Not for the original action, which was reprehensible in and of itself, but for the comment about kids at the ballpark and threatening the father on top of the homophobic stuff. To me that crosses the line from a lack of sensitivity to behavior that really can't be tolerated.

I imagine if he was the bench coach he would have been axed fairly quickly.

Re: Atlanta Braves Troubles
I missed this whole controversy when I was away. Yikes - reading the account Vicki linked to, it sounds odd - I think he needs some therapy in addition to sensitivity training and anger management...sounds like more than a class or two. And I think the suspension should have been at least a month. I hope the fine was huge...there's just no place for that conduct.

And Derek Lowe is a complete douche. Just add his DUI onto his long list of issues...
