Re: The Red Sox Thread
I hope the Red Sox have a worse September this year than they did last year.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
The NESN feed of this debacle is great, because you can see Salty's face as he is pushed out of the way. His facial expression says "WTF, I'm surrounded by idiots!" They had a few gold glove gems in this game.

Alfredo Aceves Had A Weird Day
http://deadspin.com/5939955/alfredo-...ad-a-weird-day
Not really sure what was going on with Alfredo Aceves yesterday, but he was
acting like a bigger
basket case than usual. He and Dustin Pedroia got into an argument in the
dugout—probably because Aceves threw over to second, like, 17 times and Pedroia
seemed ill-prepared for each successive toss—and were eventually separated by
coaches, including Bobby Valentine, who also felt the wrath of Aceves.
Then Aceves inexplicably got in the way of catcher Jared Saltalamachia's put
out of a foul-ball pop-fly. Finally, It looks like Aceves tries to use another
foul ball for his next pitch and he and the home plate umpire begin barking back
and forth about that...Plays the game the wrong way.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Was today just a normal loss for the Red Sox or did something awesome happen?

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Apparently, and according to the Herald, Henry and Cherington flew to Seattle ahead of the Red Sox team. Could be nothing or are they there to give him a show of support or to send him packing?

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Reports are trickling in that a clearly agitated Bud Selig met yesterday in an emergency meeting with his top advisers (John Henry and Peter Gammons) and they were unable to bang out a deal that would allow 8 Wild Card Teams for this year's playoffs. According to an unnamed source close to the thinking of the three giants (Peter Gammons), they have not given up hope that this can get hammered out for this year.
Plans for 10 teams to be Wild Cards this year, perhaps in the AL only, as an experiment (if necessary) were also discussed.I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Re: The Red Sox Thread
True. But the Globe reports that team officials said it was Cherington's plan all along to catch up with the team in Seattle. (No mention of Henry going to Seattle in the Globe article.) Gotta ask why? The Sox are back in Boston after the 3 game set against the Mariners. What is so pressing that Cherington had to be in Seattle today? Some of Valentine's comments and actions over the last week make it sound like he thinks or knows the end is near.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Are the Red Sox mailing these games in? They probably won't win again until they play the falling pinstripes.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
It's gone unnoticed somehow because he's acted like a tool, but what the Sox are doing to Aceves is pretty criminal.
8/28: 24 pitches
8/29: 33
8/30: DNP
8/31: 23
9/1: 63
143 pitches over the course of five days is abnormal as hell. Valentine is a total scumbag; perfect fit for this franchise.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Obviously as a fan with pride in my team, I hate to see the Red Sox lose everyday, but there will be a silver lining, in my opinion, if the Red Sox lose enough to cost Valentine his job. I want a fresh start next year, not the long shadow of Bobby Valentine darkening Spring Training next year. A better draft pick will also be the result. I hope the Red Sox get a real good look at Lavarnway and Iglesias in the next month as well. They have decisions to make at both of those positions going forward, and I'm not convinced that either one of them should automatically be penciled into those positions for the long-term future.

Here's to many many continuous fresh starts every year for the Red Sox.
