Re: The Red Sox Thread
How in the world are the Red Sox only 5 games out for the 4 seed? Unreal.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
There's nothing special about having the 4th worst record in the AL, regardless of the WC.
Yankees are 10 UP on the WC after losing the best closer ever, the best defensive LF in the game, their projected #2, their replacement #3, and DL stints from their ace and their set up guy.Hideki Matsui is capable of anything

If Bud keeps adding WC teams, Boston will find a way to make it in.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
So Cherington was on WEEI this morning and said this:
When we look at where we are in the standings, I guess particularly the teams that are right ahead of us in the wild card chase, we don't believe that any of those teams are better than us, or necessarily more talented than us.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
I agree that the team I root for on the field this year just plain stinks... But *on-paper* almost everyone had them as a playoff team.
Here's just one of them.

THIS guy didn't.
(points to self with both thumbs)
But, I do completely understand why most projection systems had them near the top.
Given a full roster and the historical player performance that surrounds them, the math certainly points towards the post season. It's just that projections like PECOTA don't have access to NerfBall55's proprietary douchebaggary factors (NBPDBF) to weight them with.Hideki Matsui is capable of anything

Re: The Red Sox Thread
....how...how..does Aaron Cook have THREE strikeouts in 36 innings this year? That's SIX starts.
0.8 BB/9
0.8 K/9
My brain just exploded.

First, it was their struggles on the field. And now this: The Boston Red Sox mascot's costume was stolen Friday afternoon, the Boston Police Department confirmed to ESPNBoston.com.According to the report, the suspect was fleeing the area wearing the Wally The Green Monster costume.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Aaron Cook went into tonight with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks in 36 innings. The last pitcher to finish a season with at least 36 innings, fewer than 1 strikeout per 9 innings, and fewer than 1 walk per 9 innings was Slim Sallee in 1919. The last pitcher to finish a season with at least 36 innings, fewer than 2 strikeouts per 9 innings, and fewer than 2 walks per 9 innings was Sam Zoldak in 1951.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
In an amusing moment during last nights game, Red Sox play by play announcer, Don Orsillo , revealed that Pedroia had come up to him during spring training and requested that whenever Petey hit a home run that Orsillo yell out La Luna meaning the moon.
The whackos at SoSH were spamming this in their GDT after the Pedroia homer. Did some googling and this is what I came up with.
*shudder*

I wonder if Ellsbury's right arm ever gets chilly.
David Ortiz tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003.
