Re: The Red Sox Thread
Chris Davis is the first AL position player to win a game as a pitcher since 1968. I believe that was the Yankees' Rocky Colavito.
Rocking that "arrogant Yankee fan" attitude.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
LOL. They can't even hit Chris Davis. Looks like the only way Boston wins is of they score 10 runs or more.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Wow, TWO scoreless innings from Chris Davis? And two strikeouts? He struck out A-Gon

Things are so bad, it's almost hard to laugh at them.A fool and his money can throw one heck of a party!

Re: The Red Sox Thread
I'll continue to watch and root because I want my favorite team to win but sadly this gives me quite a bit of satisfaction after the way Francona was treated. Although even he couldn't do anything with this disastrous roster.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
I don't understand why they thought Tito was the problem or how Bobby V would be the solution

And the lineup isn't that bad. The Sox have some great players. You act like it's the Pirates.A fool and his money can throw one heck of a party!

Re: The Red Sox Thread
It's karma for that fluke ass year he had a few years ago. Thankfully, his peripherals still suck (29IP/15BB/19SO before today's starts).

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Beer and chicken! Beer and chicken! Remember this was the "greatest team evah" going into last season. If it wasn't for beer and chicken, they'd have won it all!
Get rid of that beer-and-chicken-tolerating Francona, and all will be well!
And this wasn't just a delusion of the Red Sox ownership/front office, by the way. A lot of Yankee fans here bought into that meme too. When at the end of the season I suggested "beer and chicken" was a media-driven diversion and that the Sox were actually a deeply flawed team on the decline - chicken or no chicken - I had to fight my way out. Not against Sox fans, against Yankee fans.Rocking that "arrogant Yankee fan" attitude.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
I don't believe that team was deeply flawed though. They had all the tools to make it into the playoffs. They just sucked down the stretch. Guys that normally won, didn't. Guys that normally hit, didn't. Maybe they were exhausted. Maybe it was the managing. Maybe it was bad luck, or bad attitude, but that was a decent team who should have made the playoffs. They weren't perfect, and they certainly weren't going to win it all, but they were better than the slop out there today.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
I don't think that year was a total fluke- though he did get better results than his peripherals deserved. He made a big jump as a pitcher- command of several pitches- good velocity
There has to be something wrong now physically- he's just not the same pitcher now- it's like he's throwing BPGreetings from Pensacola- highest per capita tattooed grandmothers in the US

Re: The Red Sox Thread
It was most definitely a total fluke. He outperformed his FIP/xFIP by a substantial margin.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Well, I think FIP has big problems as a stat, but I was talking about his development as a pitcher. When he first came up, he had a great change and not much else
In 2010, his fangraph pitch vales showed FB as +17, the change as +6.8 and the slider as + 4.1
In short he developed very good stuff. Compare that arc to Phil Hughes "progress" and tell me we wouldn't be overjoyed if Phil had that type or arsenal?Greetings from Pensacola- highest per capita tattooed grandmothers in the US

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Ouch. Pretty harsh piece from Eric Wilbur with boston.com, even if there is some truth to it.....
