Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
I think Epstein is excellent, but really nobody of significance has come out of his regime. When you have bright young execs who work very well within a system, it tends not to work out on the GM front in MLB when they go elsewhere. They are simply not equipped. Likely because they are not natural talent evaluators. Hoyer went to SD in love with the Red Sox talent, but pretty much because of the internal Sox scouts and evaluators- not his own.

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
Castilgione is a fixture, obviously but as he ages he is rapidly approaching Rizzuto territory. By that I mean a state where only fans of the team will be able to stand him.
I was listening to the warm up show yesterday and Dave O'Brien (the other radio guy) was talking about the Yankees and mentioned that the Yankees are still "hanging on" to Colon and Garcia in the rotation, as if their performance were bad and that the Yanks were desperate to replace them. News flash, Dave, Colon and Garcia would be the 3 and 4 on your team as well, and have better numbers than Bucholtz did.
On a separate note, Bedard was decent last night, which is unfortunate from my point of view. It will be interesting to see how he fares as he gets stretched out a bit.

What a tool.
Regardless, one of the only things I liked about the Soriano signing was that it guarantees Papelbon won't be wearing pinstripes in the near future.

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
Very similar to a loss against the White Sox last Friday night in Wake's first shot at 200. Just like that game, the Sox had an early lead, had a chance to blow the game open with the bases loaded, had a bad strikeout to kill the momentum (Youkilis last week), gave up the lead the very next inning and went on to lose.
Oh well, at least we've got Lackey going against CC tomorrow.

Good game. Sox just got beat fair and square. On to our savior, John Lackey!

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
well the way these series tend to go, Lackey will be lights out and CC will be bad
..it's always the game you think you have a good advantage on paper, that never works out that way...
I'm hoping Beckett becomes 2010 Beckett on Sunday but not very optimistic..he's been great, and it's a high profile game..headcase or not, he's made for the big game.

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
if I didn't hate the Yankee/Red Sox games enough, I am about to spend a week at the Cape with 3 Red Sox fans (my stepmom and two step brothers), 2 Met fans (my two brothers) and the b/f who is a Yankee fan like me may not be up there many days but my sister's fiance is a Yankee fan. This should be interesting...I really wish it wasn't during an actual series -- I'm going to try to avoid baseball talk as much as possible.

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
I've been texting back and forth with a Sox fan friend of mine tonight and we had this exchange:
Me: I saw a black guy in the crowd, true story.
Him: Its black paint, he's just a racist.I'm in your thread, stealing RYMASTER or Ryan_Yankees' identity.

Memo to Terry Francona, please don't ever give Jason Varitek the 3-0 green light again.
Thanks.

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
I guess.

We'll see in the coming years whether this is an anomaly or not.
Joe Mauer had one big power year too and hasn't hit for much since. Or prior.
We'll see...

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
So, last night Terry gave Varitek the 3-0 green light with the bases loaded and then let him bat in the eight with the tying run on third base.
Not Terry's finest hour..

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
Alls wells that ends well and all that, but come on. Bases loaded 3-0 count, you have Varitek taking two pitches, not swinging away. Then in the 8th, you have to pinch hit Salty in that spot.
I was shaking my head (which is a nice way of saying hurling obscenities at my TV) both times.

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)
Wow I know Crawford has been hot lately but having his season average up to .360 (or so said NESN's starting lineup, anyway) is quite a feat given his start.
