Re: The Red Sox Thread
I went to a Pawsox game for the fireworks on the 3rd.. It's really a cool experience there - kind of all the good parts about baseball, and they totally cater to the kids.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
This is one of the funniest unintentional slip ups I've seen in a while:
http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/...ial-slur-rehab
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Before many of the 18 pitches he saw in his third rehab start for Double-A Portland on Thursday night, Boston Red Sox left fielder Carl Crawford was forced to tune out a heckler behind home plate.
The fan -- who Crawford claimed uttered "a racial slur" -- routinely made his feelings known with regard to the left fielder's $142 million contract and whether he was earning it.
The heckler's message: overrated, overpaid.
Crawford responded Thursday night in the fifth inning of Portland's 11-3 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats by lacing a triple to right-center field at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. He reached third base without drawing a throw.
After completing his night in the seventh inning, Crawford was asked about the fan and lingering animosity that may exist after his disappointing 2011 season, his first in Boston.
"Talking about that guy, he actually called me a racial slur to begin the game," said Crawford, who hit .255 with a .289 on-base percentage last season. "He was the only one I had a problem with. People in Boston don't even do that. So I don't know what that was about. It's not that bad in Boston, like that."Mo' Nut: One Smoove Brotha.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
I just came here to post that.
how great a quote is that.
it was even a little odd in the first place, isn't it? but the boston part was too funny...
ETA - I see now why he brought it up in the first place - he was asked about it..I read it last night on a blog and it didn't say that and it looked random.

How badly did the Sox hose up Bard?
also topped out at 95.@PeteAbe: RT @aaronmgoldsmith: Daniel Bard's 7th inning: walk, passed ball, walk, wild pitch, RBI fielder's choice, inf single. 21 pitches, 9 strikes

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Thinking he should start the year in a major league rotation after not starting since he was in A-ball in 2007 (when he pitched horribly) was a horrific move -- and even worse when you consider that they had multiple holes in their bullpen. I guess they were trying to outdo the Yankees once again

Nava LF
Kalish CF
Ortiz DH
Ross RF
Gonzalez 1B
Saltalamacchia C
Gomez 3B
Aviles SS
Punto 2B
Gonzalez hitting 5th in that lineup amuses me a great deal.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
You have to factor in age compared to who they compete against.
Example, Bogaerts is 19 playing in A+ where the league average age is 22. that's big.
Owens is 19 playing in A, where the average is age is 21 and he's putting up 13K/9. Granted he's got a 9.1H/9 and 4.0BB/9, but at that age in that league, scouts are going to take notice of a lefty putting up 85K in 58 Inn
Bradley started in A+ where he was league average, but he dominated the league. Now he's been promoted to AA where he's 2 years below league average and in his first 74 PA he's putting up a 909 OPS. SSS yes. But great start. Very good speed and very good defender in CF. Will probably start 2013 in AAA and might get a Sept. callup at end of year (and may be Jacoby's replacement if he continues his performance).

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Weakest Boston Line-up since the 60's when the Yankees were fielding Tom Tresh, Horace Clarke, Joe Pepitone, etc. Except the Yankees of 2012 are considerably better than that crew. Which is why this weekend is a reverse-lock for the Sox. But no matter, they could still sweep, and almost certainly will finish with about 85 wins. The Yankees should clinch the division around Sept 10.

Yes on paper the Yanks should win 3 of 4 but on paper the Yanks should have lost Wednesday's game.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Carl Crwford as a season savior?
Probably not so much
" Carl Crawford will continue his rehab assignment with Triple A Pawtucket tomorrow. He revealed that the PRP injection in his left elbow did not really help his partially torn ligament but that he has learned to throw adequately.
"It's not 100 percent healthy but I'm able to hit," he said. "The elbow, there are still some issues. I've been making some throws down in the minor leagues, good enough to hit the cutoff man. I don't know if I'll be hosing anybody out at home or anything like that. But I think it's strong enough to hit the cutoff man if I can to the ball quick enough to stop the guys from advancing."
It sounds like Crawford could need surgery come the offseason.
"Probably," he said. "I'm at a point now where I can get by with it. So I'll do that.""
Geez, his arm was awful before the injury

What an ugly game so far. Beckett clearly doesn't have his stuff.
