Wish he hadn't buckled either but understand why he's attending.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Same. Disappointed he gave in - esp with those 2 morons at the helm. LL and Henry.

I don't know how it's going to be set up, but I wouldn't be surprised if Tito completely ignores the ownership guys. He'll get a huge pop from the crowd, and probably exchange some nice words with players. He owes the ownership nothing. I think 95% of the fans are very happy that he is attending.
And on a side note, this team pretty much sucks right now.

Over/under of July 1, 2012 for Bobby V's reign to end. You don't call out one of the mainstays in public two weeks into your first year as manager there. And after the way Francona was treated I am surprised to see he changed his mind when the two goons that own the team haven't said one word about regretting their shameful handling of it.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Although these things are hard to predict accurately, of course, I think we're at the start of a Red Sox mini-Ice Age that will last 2-3 years, perhaps more. Injuries and a parcel of bad contracts handed out for past performance, topped by Theo's Legacy, the Worst Free Agent Contract Ever Written (That's you, Carl!) have robbed the organization of the financial flexibility to fix things any time soon. There will be several black holes in the line-up for years to come. Maybe we can switch places with the Astros and move to the NL Central?
Long term we're OK, though. We're stacked at low A and high A . If only I live long enough...

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Last year, after their horrible start, Yanks fans were giddy but knew that it was a very good team and would turn it around and go on a run.
This year, the potential for train wreck was easy to see. Move after move by the FO were head scratchers- topped off by hiring Valentine. Given the de facto hard salary cap and the limitation on draft and International signings, it's gonna be a lot harder for the big money teams to use financial resources as they did in the past.Greetings from Pensacola- highest per capita tattooed grandmothers in the US

Exactly - Tito gets it. I think it's the utmost tribute to him that even though he was "the enemy", he always had the respect of Yankee fans. He deserved far better than he got not only from management, but his own players. They're already paying the price. Meanwhile, we get to enjoy his insight and humor as a very competent analyst for ESPN..... and they needed one badly.

I'd love to see Francona jog out with a bottle of prescription pills in one hand and hot, bikini-clad babes on either side of him. Then, when he lines up next to the other honorees on the foul line, he should start popping the pills into his mouth - - tossing them in the air and catching them with his tongue like it's popcorn.

Welcome to NYYFans, the place where Yankees fans come together to complain about the manner in which our team is winning games.

Re: The Red Sox Thread
Actually, if you define success as winning the World Series, 14 years of success in 100 years would be a very nice accomplishment. But, of course, the Red Sox can't claim this. Instead, they'd have 2 years of success in 100 years.
If we are to include World Series appearances - winning the pennant and the series, the Sox would have 6 years of success. Hence, I can't see how the Sox had more than 6 successful years in 100 years.
Which makes the Yankees run in the same time frame all the more incredible - 27 World Championships and 40 World Series appearances.
