question about an Old Timers date

When I was younger my father took me to a Yankees game and told me it was Old Timers day, he doesn't recall when it was or which Old Timers were present, The Pictures I dug up showed they faced the Royals and the game I estimate took place in either 88' or 89'. Does anyone here remember when that was and who was there?.
