Re: Lets Go Rangers! 2011-2012 season thread
I had it DVRd and just watched the game. Nothing new to add regarding the game and officiating. Can someone link to Torts comments (I'm sure they'll be on 24/7)?

Re: Lets Go Rangers! 2011-2012 season thread
This team is very ... very special. They have a chance to do something big for a quite a few years. This particular group just has a certain feeling to it ... I can't explain it. They finally have it ... the right mix! They have a core group of young guys who play the game the right way. A defensive minded group who bail each other out and pick each other up every single night. They also have veteran lethal goal producers who are at the top of their game in Gabby and Richards as well as lead by example on the ice and in the locker room. Guys like Rupp are also big vocal standouts who are grooming the rookies and providing balance with grit. The defense is deep with talent like Girardi, MDZ, Staal, McDonagh, Bickel, and Eminger when he returns. What's most impressive about this D is that they are producing offensively as well. The forwards are just as deep, heck I would put our 3rd and 4th lines against any in the NHL ... and that come playoff time will mean a lot. It's important to have faith in your depth to keep everyone fresh for each shift. Anisimov is very underrated and Stepan, and Hagelin are stars in the making are all young and very disciplined. Even this kid Mitchell has really impressed me. Cally is the perfect captain on this team leading by example giving 101% every shift and even if he is matched up against someone with a better skill set he will out work his opposition which is a HUGE statement toward the rest of the team ... and it shows the way they play. And when you have a back up like Biron who will give you a great chance to win every night he backs up Hank, well you have the making not only for a playoff team ... but a STANLEY CUP winning team.
But even with all the talent they have (and they have a lot of it) ... the best part of this team is their identity. Their work ethic is unparalleled. If you beat them it won't be because they didn't show up, you will earn every bump, every goal, every point. When you combine a team with the right mix of talent, youth, veteran leadership, depth, strong work ethic, grit, and most importantly mental toughness and resolve ... you have a team that NOBODY will want to play come April.

That was one heck of an event today.
TV does not do that event justice. It looks ridiculous in person.
Here's my main story on ... who else? Henrik Lundqvist:
http://insidehockey.com/lundqvist-st...winter-classic
I'll have another story on Marc Staal posted in the morning.PHILADELPHIA – There were only two players on the ice, and 19.6 seconds showing on the massive diamond-vision at beautiful Citizens Bank Park. Henrik Lundqvist, the star Rangers goaltender, and Danny Briere, the star Flyers goal scorer were standing about 100 feet apart as the Rangers clung to a one-goal advantage.
Holding their breath were 46,967 fans at what is normally the home of the Philadelphia Phillies, but today transformed into a spectacular winter postcard at the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.

Anyone else noticed the two teams didn't shake hands?
In prior WC's, both teams shook hands afterwards.

Any word why Bryzgalov didn't play? Didn't they sign him for 9 years and $50 mil?

^ Because his Goals Against Average over the past month is so humongous big!
Also, as someone who wanted Laviolette when Renney was fired, Slats made the right choice.

Can't wait until this is at YS in two years.
And it will be...

The Bowl contract is up either 2012 or 2013. I think it's the latter.
Lonn Trost was just talking recently about YS hosting the WC.
I think the Yankees are a bit disappointed that these Bowl games aren't doing well...
No way it's the Pens again. They've been home and on the road. They won't get another anytime soon.
I would go with Bruins or Blackhawks vs Rangers.

Pens Vs. Caps at YS.
I think Washington gets it next year.

Re: Lets Go Rangers! 2011-2012 season thread
I'm not surprised that nobody cares about the bowl game at YS. NY metro area doesn't have any connections to college football. We have two NFL teams. College football is a southern sport.
RFK or Nationals Stadium? Who would they play - Tampa or Boston?

Re: Lets Go Rangers! 2011-2012 season thread
Gotta go with RFK. But I question if DC would be cold enough. If they can get the NFL schedule worked out, I think Mile High stadium isn't out of the question to pull in viewers from the West, or they could do it at Coors field. Also could be Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium

Penguins wearing Tampa's uni's.
Boston/Caps seems to make the most sense. Come to think of it, Boston has a bunch of characters that would be pretty entertaining to watch on 24/7, so I'll pull for that.
If Detroit gets it next, I hope they play Minnesota so that we can see an outdoor game in Minnesota in a few years.

Here you go. Winter Classic futures.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...aining-content
The worst-kept secret around Citizens Bank Park during the 2012 NHL Winter Classic was that Ilya Bryzgalov is clinically insane.
The second worst-kept secret is that the next Winter Classic will be in Detroit next January.
It's at a point where people associated with the League speak about it with inevitability. In fact, Tom Wilson — President and CEO of Olympia Entertainment, which handles business operations for the Detroit Red Wings — was seen on-site in Philadelphia.

I hope it's not in Comerica. Talk about terrible sight lines.
