Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
i'd like to see him pass Aaron before he retires, to get the most hits by a right-handed player ever.

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Jeter scored his 1799th career run today breaking a tie with Ted Williams for 17th (or 18th according to baseball-reference*) place on the all-time list.
*Baseball-reference includes Cap Anson's stats accumulated in the pre-1876 National Association in compiling their career leader rankings. Other stat compilers do not consider the National Association to have been a "major league" and only compile stats starting in 1876 with the National League.

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
I don't see Jeter retiring after this current contract. I'm guessing he plays for another 1-2 years after the current deal, most likely retiring when he's 42. And I think the Yankees will let him do it - he's a subpar fielder with limited range but doesn't make mistakes, and offensively, even if he's hitting .280ish with no power he's still a league average hitter for a SS. Throw in the "he's Derek Jeter" factor and I'm guessing he'll be around through the 2016 season.
4 more years at 150 per would put him up close to 3900. Will be tough, but it can be done.

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Jeter is now 7 hits away from tying Cal Ripken, Jr for 14th on the all-time hits list.
He is also 20 strikeouts away from tying Mickey Mantle for most strikeouts by a hitter in NYY history.

I just noticed he is leading for starting SS for the ASG. I was stunned.

I don't wanna duplicate this discussion, check the conversation I had in his performance thread as to my reasons....
it pretty much starts here (more up top but this starts the conversation I think). If you wanna add to it you can but I got my thoughts and reasons out I think:

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
If you're surprised that Jeter is the #1 vote getter at SS, then you haven't been paying attention for the past 15 years.

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Well I'd rather not duplicate this here but if you insist....
I figured at 37 years old and a couple of other big SS's in the league he wouldn't be the leading vote getter. With all the information that fans have now it seems the voters are getting increasingly smarter with their votes year by year. Slowly, but it's happening.
I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it at all, he's definitely top 3 offensively right now. Maybe even top 2. I just thought maybe America was sick of him is all. Guess not. Cal started all those years as well.NYYFans Fantasy Baseball

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Honestly, I am just a little bit surprised that non-Yankees' fans are voting for Jeter. If you'll recall, last year some were up in arms that Jeter didn't attend the ASG after being voted in by the fans. We as Yankees' fans understood that he preferred to rest the still-healing calf but others did not. Good to see that there's no carry-over from that.

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Most people voting on the all-star game only know a handful of players, and vote for them. Jeter might be the most famous player in the league, and he's been around a long time on the most popular team. Ripken was really bad when he was getting voted in every year. Jeter is the same kind of iconic player, but with more success and he's actually still productive.
