Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
With game 2,401 he ties Mickey Mantle as the all-time leader in games played for the team.
Mays played baseball. Mantle was baseball.

One more to tie Biggio, then no more to pass until next season.

Tied with the Mick for most games played in a Yankee uniform.

Right...next up is Dave Winfield at 3110. Jeter will pass him next season.

Cap Anson invented Spring Training while looking at a rat inside the Green Monster.

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Apparently it's a matter of some dispute. YES just listed Cap Anson at 3,081 hits ... baseball-reference.com has him at 3,435.
Here's an article that goes into it at some length:

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Bad hotel last night connection prevented post of...

Dave Winfield at 3,110.
As to Anson, MLB's site ignores his production in the National Association, which was the father of the National League from 1871-1875. All of baseball recognized his extra hits from that time, as did MLB before they redid the database that does the online display. Some junior programmer is screwing this kind of thing up. Winfield is definitely next.
Probably last post of this kind for the year, but maybe we can document his World Series records in October.

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Whether they include his NA stats or not, Winfield is next. If they dont include them, then he already passed Anson. If they do, he is 345 hits behind him.
Whats amazing is how many hits he got playing in so few games. Seasons were half as long as they are now. if he played 130g a season, (he averaged 93) he could have over 4700 hits.

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Since it's unlikely he's going to rise on the hits chart this season, here's where DJ stands on some other lists today, just for fun:
Games: 75th at 2407, 2 less than Mickey Vernon, 2 more than Johnny Damon.
At bats: 32nd at 9792, 9 less than Ken Griffey, Jr
Plate Appearances: 34th at 11,072, 20 less than Harold Baines
Runs: 21st at 1756, 18 fewer than Charlie Gehringer, 60 fewer than A-Rod who needs 480 to set the all-time record
Total bases: 52nd at 4401, 3 fewer than Mike Schmidt. A-Rod is 14th, 1654 from Aaron.
Doubles: 63rd at 488. Tied with Bagwell, Ott and...Harold Baines!!
Triples: 65, way down the list.
HR: 239, 225th. I remember when you got a ceremony and a plaque when you hit your 200th homer. Think about this one, though: only 224 Major Leaguers have hit more homers than Jeter.
RBI: 148th at 1189, 2 behind Tony Lazzeri.
Walks: 116th at 987, 4 behind Cupid Childs. Make your own joke here.
K's: 30th at 1635, 30 behind Andruw Jones. A-Rod is 7th at 1906. Mantle retired the all-time leader at 1710, now is 23rd; 6 actives lead him. Mantle broke Ruth's all-time record of 1330. Babe is now 98th.
SB: 117th at 338. Tied with John Anderson (look him up, an historic baseball name once) and...Willie Mays.
Singles: 13th at 2274, 20 behind Aaron. Rose's 3215 singles alone would put him 14th on the all-time hit list.
Runs created: 43rd at 1738.
HBP: 16th at 158, 7 behind Kid Elberfeld (a Yankee manager, one of the worst)
GIDP: 32nd at 245. Thought he'd be up there. Ripken leads at 350, Pudge 13 behind him, not likely to get it though.
Finally, Outs made: 32nd at 7200. Rose made 10,328, over 1,000 more than anyone else.
So he's up there in most lists, and climbs a little higher each week.Mays played baseball. Mantle was baseball.

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Great list! Now...his ranking as a Yankee (from B-R.com):

At bats: 9797, #1
Plate Appearances: 11,077, #1
Runs: 1757, #3 (Ruth, 1959 and Gehrig, 1888)
Total bases: 4403, #4 (Ruth 5131, Gehrig 5060, Mantle 4511)
Doubles: 489, #2 (Gehrig, 534)
Triples: 65, #15 (Gehrig, 163)
HR: 239, #10 (Ruth, 659)
RBI:1189, #8 (Gehrig, 1995)
Walks: 987, #6 (Ruth, 1852)
K's: 1636, #2 (Mantle, 1710)
SB: 338, #1 (Never much of a running team!)
Hits: 3067, #1
Runs created: 1738, #4 (Ruth, 2446)
HBP: 158, #1
GIDP: 245, #1

Re: Derek Jeter: 3,000 Hits and Milestones
Justifying a bump of this thread....Derek's walk today moved him ahead of Cupid Childs into sole possession of 115th place all-time. Whattheheck, we clinched the post-season and I'm in a good mood.
3,084 hits (20th), 1,765 runs (21st), his next game played ties him with Luke Appling at 2,422 (72nd). Next season could be fun for this thread. 170 hits (staying healthy and productive) would see him pass Winfield, Gwynn, Yount, Waner, Brett
, Ripken
, Lajoie and Murray. 12th all time at that point with another season under contract.
Mays played baseball. Mantle was baseball.

Time to bump this. He'll pass Dave Winfield next week, but the champagne comes out this June or July when he passes St. Cal.
