Re: The Injury Update Thread 2011
Ugh, seriously:
Looks like Feliciano is going to start the year on the DL:

The staff would be set, but Pedro Feliciano might open on the disabled list. In fact, that sounds likely

• Pedro Feliciano is dealing with the same upper-arm tightness that slowed him down earlier this spring. He seemed to be on his way back, but Feliciano felt it again during his most recent bullpen. He’ll throw off flat ground tomorrow, but Opening Day is in doubt. The Yankees should know for sure by Tuesday.

Cashman learned his lesson with Marte by signing Feliciano. Reminds me of that Einstein quote.

Stickball and T-ball for Granderson. He must feel like a kid again.Girardi still thinks there’s a chance Curtis Granderson will be ready for Opening Day. He’s supposed to run and throw today. Tomorrow he’ll take some dry swings with a broom stick, and if that goes well, he’ll also hit a few balls off a tee tomorrow. “There’s a chance,” Girardi said.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2011
So the new guy, Dickerson, gets the start, goes three for three with an RBI, and limps off the field with an apparent hamstring issue.

I have no link, but I was reading the game thread on Lohud and apparently new guy Dickerson has already hurt his hammy in today's game

* This and variations on it have also been variously attributed to Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, Alcoholics Anonymous (step 2), and an old Chinese proverb.

^that quote really never made sense to me. Is rolling a dice hoping to get a 2 one time and a 6 another time "insanity?"

News on Granderson and Feliciano:
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/...k_nyy&c_id=nyy
Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson believes he has a "50-50" chance of being on the field for Opening Day.
Mending a strained right oblique, Granderson resumed swinging a bat and running the bases on Saturday while also throwing, saying he continues to feel some tightness but only minor discomfort.
"I'm 50-50 right now," Granderson said. "The way everything felt today was a good sign, another step forward. Hopefully everything continues the same way."Yankees left-hander Pedro Feliciano could start the season on the disabled list with lingering discomfort near his pitching shoulder.
Manager Joe Girardi said on Saturday that Feliciano, 34, continues to be bothered by the soreness that has kept him out of Grapefruit League play since March 7.
Feliciano will play catch on flat ground on Sunday after being prescribed additional rest and treatment following a live batting practice session this week.
Girardi said that the Yankees should know by Tuesday if Feliciano -- who led the Majors in relief outings in each of the last three seasons -- will be ready to begin the year.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2011
From LoHud:
Cramping and spasms for Dickerson
Quite a day for Chris Dickerson.
In his first game with the Yankees, Dickerson went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, then he limped off the field with a left hamstring injury.
So far, the Yankees medical team says it’s cramping and spasms. That’s all they can diagnose at this point. Dickerson is not scheduled to make tomorrow’s road trip and will see the trainers instead.
“Let’s just hope it’s cramps,” Joe Girardi said.
Turns out, Dickerson felt some cramping this morning but played through it.
“Probably trying to make a good first impression,” Girardi said.
The good news is that Girardi is “a little bit” more optimistic about Curtis Granderson, who did more than expected and remains a possibility for the Opening Day lineup.

http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/...k_nyy&c_id=nyyYankees could be without Feliciano early on
TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees left-hander Pedro Feliciano could start the season on the disabled list with lingering discomfort near his pitching shoulder.
"It's a concern," Girardi said. "You want him Opening Day."

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2011
This really just doesn't sound good at all; I would imagine that he'd have to be sent for an MRI as it's not getting better.

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2011
^ The above story is "Feliciano likely to miss Opening Day."
Meanwhile, there is better news on Granderson and neutral news on Dickerson:The immediate news out of today’s pregame session with Joe Girardi is that Pedro Feliciano is almost certainly going to open on the disabled list. He was supposed to throw today but his arm didn’t feel good, so the session was cancelled.
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2011/03/2...-step-forward/Granderson takes another step forward
Curtis Granderson remains questionable for Opening Day, but Joe Girardi keeps growing a little more optimistic that he’ll have his center fielder from the very beginning. It seems to be a cautious optimism, but the idea isn’t off the table.
“Every day he can take the next step, you have to be optimistic,” Girardi said. “But you still want to see it turned up.”
Everything went as planned today, and the Yankees are planning to have Granderson take batting practice tomorrow (regular BP with the coaches, not live BP against a pitcher). The last big league spring training game is Tuesday, there will be a minor league game on Wednesday — in theory Granderson could play in that — and Opening Day is Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Yankees got fairly good news on Chris Dickerson. He took batting practice today, but the team’s still not sure what exactly is wrong with him.
“He felt better today,” Girardi said. “Still not sure if it’s a slight strain or just a cramp.”

Pedro Feliciano had an MRI this morning. It showed some sort of muscle problem — Girardi wasn’t sure of the exact diagnosis — but the bottom line is this: “It’s pretty hard to think that he would start with us,” Girardi said. “I’m hoping it’ll be shorter (term), but you can never predict

Re: The Injury Update Thread 2011
Maybe there was a reason the Mets didn't want to sign Feliciano after he had been their workhorse for, what was it, 8 years? Like concern that he had been overused? Altho the guy had never been on the DL, so I have a hard time faulting the Yankees.
