Should the Yankees trade for JA Happ next year?
This ia great idea for the Yankees. He is a guy no one will look at for any competing team to bring in. He is a young, hard throwing, lefty. When do you ever come in contact with a young hard throwing lefty. He also has had success in the majors. I think he would be a great addition to Yankees rotation.
They could offer Chamberlain and one of great young catchers Yankees have and maybe another minor leaguer. If trade goes down Yankees rotation next year (i think Lee will join the team and Pettite will retire)
Lee
Sabathia
Hughes
Haap
Burnett
or if Lee doesn't comed and Pettite comes back
Sabathia
Pettite

If Lee and Pettite do not come

If Lee and Pettite come back

Pettite
Haap
Hughes (can battle for 5th spot with Burnett)

Hard throwing? His fastball doesn't average even 90.
I'm not a fan at all. I'd rather have Chamberlain.

Hard throwing lefty that averages 89 MPH?

Chamberlain + Romine/Sanchez + filler for J.A Happ?
That would be a no.

I would love Happ. Not all about velocity, the guy can pitch. Just need to keep him healthy and you can never have enough lefties. I would love for the Yanks to bring Pettitte back, acquire Lee and Happ. Can you imagine a rotation of 4 quality lefties? Who needs Crawford or Werth with that rotation? Sign me up.

This is fairly pointless.
"Random minor leaguer + random catcher." You do realize the other team has to agree, right?

Regardless of the merits of this idea, why is it being discussed in the middle of the playoffs?
"We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction. Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston."

Re: Yankees should trade for JA Haap? Next year
Let me explain my perspective. I look at his numbers, and I see a guy who strikes out a below average amount of batters, walks and above average amount of batters, and gives up an above average amount of homeruns. Batters make an above average amount of contact against him and his stuff does not seem like anything to get excited about. I just don't see him doing very many things well. I know he has that shiny ERA so far in his career, but for the reasons above I do not believe that his ERA is representative of how good he is. I would personally estimate him to be about a 4.5 ERA pitcher in the AL east. In other words, I see him as nothing more than run of the mill starter. I think Joba is at least as good, is younger, and has better stuff.

NL pitcher with fringe stuff and terrible command? Where do I sign up?
No. Happ is terrible, and trading Chamberlain for him is insane.
