1974 Alternate Yankee Road Jerseys...almost
From todays Uni watch update......Uni Watch Update: How the Yankees almost changed their uni design
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2...s&sportCat=mlbthe Bronx Bombers nearly gave their road uni a major overhaul in the 1970s. Former Yankees PR director Marty Appel spilled the beans on that one in his 2001 book, Now Pitching for the Yankees, which included the following passage:
"In 1974 I walked into [then-General Manager] Gabe Paul's office to find samples of new Yankee road uniforms draped across his sofa. They were the opposite of the home pinstripes -- they were navy blue with white pinstripes. The NY logo was in white. Gabe liked them. I nearly fainted. ... I think my dramatic disdain helped save the day and saved the Yankees from wearing those awful pajamas on the field."My NYY Room http://tinyurl.com/y89l8up

Actually, from the article, it doesn't really seem like the idea got very far along in the process at all. Wilson shipped some in unsolicited, Gabe Paul liked them, Marty Appel hated them, the end. I mean, if The Boss never saw them, how serious could the idea have been?
Glad they didn't do it, btw.

Well from that picture, now I know what Jeter or A-Rod would look like if they were a Legends Hospitality vendor...

Re: 1974 Alternate Yankee Road Jerseys...almost
There are a few teams that have kept with classic uniforms but far too many have made themselves look like clowns, fat man softball league players, etc. I'm glad the Yankees' ownership and management has had the fortitude NOT to cave to the "everyone else is doing it" uniform vendors. Are there any other clubs that have eschewed the alternate uniforms too? Maybe, but I don't think so.

I think the Yanks are also the only team exempt from showing the Majestic logo on their game uni sleeve. I have seen it on some warm-ups though.

I heard this a few times about the uni change, but there arent any pics of it. Its like a white whale. Anywho the Yanks should tweak their current road unis and lose the white and make it look more like the uni Mantle wore.

I kinda liked the O's orange on black unis last year, but this is a bit different here.

According to this: http://www.sportslogos.net/team.php?id=59
the Tigers had an alternate uniform in 1995. Scroll to bottom of page.
