Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
You haven't been paying attention if you honestly believe there is a chance we're leaders in those areas.
Except maybe in stats. They finally hired a pile of statisticians last year. Come to think of it, that might have netted us Kuroda and explained why Yankees wanted Kuroda for 2 years (Kuroda was the one that said only 1 year.)

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
I'm not sure any of us are paying enough attention because even their media guide is incomplete as it only gives us a snapshot of some positions within the Yankee organization. As hirings go on throughout the year and no contracted or subcontracted services are listed. As fans some of us think we know everything about the Yankee organization, but public information is limited at best in that regard.
God, I love Yankee fans as they're never satisfied!

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
You don't need to be a genius to figure out the Yankees don't trust their own medical staff when they changed their SOP and sent everyone worth a damn straight to the specialist in 2012. Compare this to the cluster ................s we had with CMW in 2009 and Hughes last year.
You also don't need to be an insider to figure out they don't have advanced training programs or regimens when they get surprised by Joba/Hughes showing up out of shape.
Set up our own training institute that runs year round so our players can train in one place during offseason is they wish. Boras and every European soccer team I can think of do this. It's odd the Yankees (and most MLB teams) doesn't.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
And we did draft out of slot and get more than a few IFAs.
What do you want them to do? Bid 3 million on everyone? Yankees has consistently picked 2 or 3 of the top 20 international FAs. Yeah, some teams are even more active and aggressive (Jays and Rangers come to mind) but it's really hard to make a case that the Yankees aren't picking up IFAs where they can.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
The point is, with the resources they had (and lack of restrictions), they should have done a lot more. I don't have the info in front of me, but I highly doubt they outspent the opposition in either the draft or the IFA the way they should have. And it's going to KILL them now that the $189M # seems like a legitimate goal.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
seems to me that the yankees has traditionallly enjoyed a great edge in intl talent (the bernie-mo generation of players), then sat on that advantage, maybe went a little arrogant, and failed to either defend or expand that advantage.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
I could buy into this. But at the same time I can't really blame them for not splurging 3, 5, and even 5 million on 18 (some younger) year olds.
Just look at the Jays. For all the money they've spent on IFAs, they sure don't have much to show for it.
I think the team understands finding super stars among the IFAs is more about getting lucky so they focus their resources on signing mid to mid-high tier prospects for much more reasonable money. Then they develop and use them as needed. Nunez, Cervelli, Ramiro Pena, CMW, and Cano are all products of this philosophy.
So far, so good. Whoever is scouting in Latin America seems to be much better at his job than the guy that scouted Kei Igawa.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
Had they known that the rules would change to hinder their spending (they should have had an idea), I'd bet a significant amount of $ they would have changed the way they did business in both the draft and IFA.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
Yeah Cashman is a great delegator, office manager type, etc. But where is his blueprint for the next few years? What is his vision, for example the lineup in his head for the year 2015 and beyond? What I see is a very wishy-washy blueprint, with no real direction or plan. He is stuck in a reactionary mode from the days when he had to react to George's impulsive whims and mood swings. For now, I'm willing to see what the offseason holds in the offing, it should be very telling about his future and more importantly the future of the club. They have dug themselves a big hole by having everything converging at once (older players, waning farm system, payroll reduction). Very telling indeed.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
Where is the blue print? Are you kidding me? Is Cashman running for office?
I am sure Hal, his boss, knows the blue print and the plan. You don't need to know it. I don't think it would be good business for Yankee management to let the world know their plans, either as a way of attracting fans or as a way to compete with other teams.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
There are ways to see the blueprint in spite of what you are saying. For example the farm system. Take a look there. I suppose they are going to stockpile the team with middle relievers judging by the number of prospects with that pedigree in the system. Take a look at your shortstop of the future - Cito Culver. Maybe even Autin Aune? Big upgrades there. You're right they should be keeping that ultra secret blueprint close to the vest. Oh yeah, there's always buying your way out of a pickle.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
There is of course a blue print but the kind of blue print you are asking for is impossible. He would be stupid to have a lineup in his head for 2015. Who knows what athletes will be doing what then. It is his job to react to what happens to the team and to the market.
The blueprint is crystal clear. Use bargain signings and young players to compensate for bloated contracts so we can still make the playoffs while stabilizing and reducing the payroll. he has been perfectly public with the plans for the organization which are based around the demands of ownership.

Re: Brian Cashman Performance Thread 2.0
You are completely taking what I said out of context. Simply stated, someone said that the blueprint for the future was out of reach for us normal fans. I said, not so. And while my view of the Yankee farm system might not be the same as yours or his, it is mine and I can use it to analyze the content of the blueprint. Lastly, the comment made by another poster is arrogant and as far as I am concerned immature. I do not get that vibe from you, so my respect for you is there even if we disagree. Have a nice evening.
