I think that's a large part of it right there. There is a place for them of course. I haven't eaten at one in years so I don't know their menu now but reading Karen's post above if I did go I'd probably order something that isn't sauce oriented.

Sauce varies from person to person. Someone straight from Italy might make a sauce I don't care for, while someone like myself, who did not grow up in an Italian household, makes a sauce my Italian in-laws love. It's a matter of taste and it's not all the same.

That is true. I am only going by my experience at another Italian chain Bertucci's. I like some of their items but their sauce is just okay.
