    UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying

    Group Matchday 4 Fixtures: October 12, 2010

    From UEFA.com and ESPN Soccernet

It wasn't a good day for the Home Nations.

England were held 0-0 to Montenegro despite hogging up possession. The Three Lions had only a few clear cut chances thanks to Montenegro's organized defense.

Milan Jovanovic was lucky that he didn't give England a penalty when he had a clear handball in the England attacking box.

Nevertheless, it was more frustration and agony for the Three Lions who were deservedly booed off the Wembley pitch.

Jovanovic also beat Joe Hart with his wonderstrike attempt, but it hit the cross bar.

Even the addition of Kevin Davies wasn't enough for Fabio Capello's men.

Meanwhile, despite a heroic fightback by Scotland at Hampden Park, Craig Levin's men were defeated by Spain 3-2. The Barcelona duo of David Villa and Andres Iniesta were on target for the defending European and World Cup champions giving La Furia Roja a 2-0 cushion. However, Scotland came back to draw level with goals from Steven John Naismith and a Gerard Pique own goal. But Fernando Llorente helped Spain escaped Glasgow with the three points with his goal 10 minutes from stoppage time.

Wales were soundly beaten on the road to Switzerland 4-1 thanks to a Valentin Stocker brace even though Tottenham Hotspur defender Gareth Bale equalized for the Welsh 13 minutes in.

Finally, Northern Ireland secured a 1-1 draw with Faroe Islands thanks to Rangers forward Kyle Lafferty's strike to give the North a point on the road.

Elsewhere, the most active group in this matchday is group A. The biggest shock of the day is Azerbaijian defeating Guus Hiddink's Turkey 1-0. R.F. Sadygov scored the goal that sank Turkey.

The most cracking match was in the King Baudouin in Brussels where Belgium and Austria had an exciting 4-4 draw. Jelle Vossen gave Belgium a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, but Franz Schiemer and Marko Arnautovic gave the Austrians a 2-1 advantage. Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini drew level for the Belgians before Schiemer's second goal gave Austria a 3-2 lead. Marvin Ogumjimi drew level for Belgium again with three minutes to go before Nicolas Lombaerts thought he gave Belgium the win with his 90th minute strike. But Martin Harnik completed the 8-goal slugfest with his equalizer before the final whistle.

Ireland played pretty well against Slovakia to come away with a 1-1 draw, but could've gotten the full three points had Robbie Keane made his penalty. The Tottenham Hotspur striker had his penalty saved by Jan Mucha.

France wins another match thanks to Karim Benzema and Yoann Gourcoff.

The Netherlands thrashed Zlatan Ibrahimovic-lite Sweden 4-1 Klaas-Jan Huntellar and Ibrahim Afellay had a pair of braces.

Russia, Slovenia, Greece, Portugal, Denmark and Czech Republic also join the winners list.

The only sour note in today's matchday is the match beween Italy and Serbia abandoned when Serbia fans threw fireworks and flares onto the Genoa pitch seven minutes into the match.

    Iceland 1-3 Portugal

    France 2-0 Luxembourg

    England 0-0 Montenegro

    Scotland 2-3 Spain

    Belgium 4-4 Austria

    Greece 2-1 Israel

    Slovakia 1-1 Republic of Ireland

    Macedonia 0-1 Russia

    Estonia 0-1 Slovenia

    San Marino 0-2 Moldova

    Netherlands 4-1 Sweden

    Switzerland 4-1 Wales

    Denmark 2-0 Cyprus

    Liechtenstein 0-2 Czech Republic

    Belarus 2-0 Albania

    Kazakhstan 0-3 Germany

    Latvia 1-1 Georgia

    Finland 1-2 Hungary

    Azerbaijan 1-0 Turkey

    Armenia 4-0 Andorra

    Faroe Islands 1-1 Northern Ireland

Here's the report of the Italy-Serbia match abandoned at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa.
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=299378&cc=5901

UEFA will award Italy an automatic 3-0 win thanks to the Serbian fans throwing flares.

    Here's the video footage.

    It's sickening.

Here's the pic of the flares on the pitch.

    UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying

Group Matchday 6 and 7 FT Scores: March 25, 2011

    From UEFA.com and ESPN Soccernet

    Group A
Belgium boosted their chances for UEFA Euro 2012 play-off spots after outclassing Austria 2-0 in Vienna.

Axel Witsel bagged a brace for the UEFA Euro 1980 runners-up who leapfrogged Austria for a UEFA Euro Play-Off Spot in Group A.

    Group C
Serbia defeated Northern Ireland 2-1 in a near-empty Crvena Zvezda Stadium because of the violence in Genoa by Serbian fans that resulted in a 3-0 forfeit win for Italy.

Gareth McAuley gave the hard fought North a 1-0 halftime lead and it seemed an upset was on the cards.

However, Olympiacos striker Marko Pantelic equalized for the Serbians and former Manchester United and current CSKA Moscow winger Zoran Tosic drilled home the winner for Beli Orlovi.

Serbia is tied with Slovenia with 7 points, but the Slovenians have a 4 goal advantage.

Speaking of Slovenia, they lost 1-0 to UEFA Euro 1968 winners and 4-time FIFA World Cup champions Italy.

Brazilian-born turned Italian midfielder, Inter Milan's Thiago Motta, scored the game winner in the 73rd minute to give the Azzurri another step closer towards qualification.

Italy has 13 points, 6 ahead of both Slovenia and Serbia in Group C.

    Group D
France welcomed back Manchester United defender Patrice Evra and Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery as Les Bleus worked their way to a 2-0 victory over Luxembourg.

AS Roma defender Philippe Mexes and Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff for Laurent Blanc's men as France now has 12 points in Group D.

    Group E
janttje's beloved Netherlands are a perfect 5 for 5 in UEFA Euro Qualifying.

    The Oranje blitzed Hungary 4-0.

Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Rafael van der Vaart and former PSV Eindhoven captain and current Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay gave the Dutch a 2-0 halftime lead before Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt and Arsenal striker Robin van Persie added two more in the second half.

Holland is 6 points clear in Group E and another team moving another step closer to early qualification.

    Group I
Defending FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro champions Spain needed a fightback to edge the Czech Republic 2-1.

Bordeaux winger Jaroslav Plasil stunned the Granada crowd with his goal in the 29th minute.

However, former Valencia turned Barcelona striker David Villa scored his 44th international goal in the 69th minute to tie the game at 1-1. That goal eclipsed legendary Real Madrid and current Schalke 04 striker Raul's mark in Spain's history.

Then five minutes later, Jan Rezek toppled Andres Iniesta in the penalty area setting up Villa's second from the spot.

Vicente del Bosque's men maintains their 100% record 4 for 4 in Group I.

    UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying

Group Matchday 6 and 7 FT Scores: March 26, 2011

    From UEFA.com and ESPN Soccernet

    Group A
It was a lopsided hiding for Kazakhstan as Germany destroyed them 4-0.

The Bayern Munich duo of Miroslav Klose and Thomas Muller each bagged a brace as the Die Mannschaft moved another step closer to qualification.

Joachim Loew's men are 8 points clear of both Belgium and Austria.

    Group B
Slovakia and the Republic of Ireland get wins as Russia was held.

Filip Sebo's 21st minute strike helps Slovakia edged Andorra 1-0.

Meanwhile, Giovanni Trapattoni's men scored two goals in the first 21 minutes in Irelands 2-1 victory over Macedonia.

Edin Nuredinovski made two howlers where Ireland pounced on. Aiden McGeady scored 85 seconds in and Darren Gibson fired a shot where the Macedonian goalkeeper bobbled it and Robbie Keane puts in the back of the net.

Russia were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw against Armenia.

Slovakia, Russia and Ireland are tied for first place in Group B with 10 points.

    Group D
Bosnia-Herzegovina boosted their UEFA qualification hopes after defeating Romania 2-1.

Ciprian Marica gave Romania a 1-0 lead before the 30 minute mark, but a Vedad Ibisevic equalizing header in the 60th minute and a winner with 7 minutes to go from former Wolfsburg and current Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko gave Safet Susic's men.

Hamdi Salihi's goal helps Albania derail Belarus's hopes to gain ground on France in a 1-0 win.

    Group F
Greece goes on top of Group F after defeating Malta 1-0 thanks to a 94th minute header from Vassilis Torosidis. Justin Haber made 9 saves for Malta.

Levan Kobiashvili's late strike lifts Georgia over Croatia 1-0.

Beram Kayal's late winner helps Israel edge Latvia 2-1.

Greece is one point ahead of Croatia 11-10 with Georgia two points behind at 9.

    Group G
England outclasses Wales 2-0 thanks to a Frank Lampard penalty and a Darren Bent goal.

James Collins brought down Ashley Young which set up the spot kick from the Chelsea midfielder and Bent scored after nice buildup from Liverpool right back Glen Johnson and Young.

Bulgaria and Switzerland held themselves to a goalless draw.

    Group H
Cyprus and Iceland were held to a goalless stalemate in a battle between two strugglers.

Dennis Rommedahl's strike wasn't enough as Denmark fails to gain ground on current Group H leaders Norway in a 1-1 draw.

Erik Huseklepp's 81st minute goal helps Norway maintain their unbeatened record.

    Group A

    UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying

Group Matchday 6 and 7 FT Scores: March 27, 2011

    From UEFA.com and ESPN Soccernet

    Group A
Guus Hiddink lives to coach another day with Turkey.

The former Netherlands, Australia and Russia boss tender his resignation notice if Turkey doesn't win against Austria and Belgium, but the UEFA Euro 2008 Top 4 finishers defeated Austria 2-0.

Arda Turan and Gokhan Gonul scored the goals for Turkey who trail one point to Belgium who are in second in Group A.

That's because Belgium thrashed Azerbaijan in Brussels 4-1.

Jan Vertonghen, Timmy Simons, Nacer Chadli and Jelle Vossen found the back of the net for the UEFA Euro 1980 runners-up.

    Group C
Konstantin Vassiljev equalized in the snow for Estonia as they denied Serbia a win in a 1-1 draw.

Serbia must be kicking themselves after being wasteful despite Ajax Amsterdam forward Marko Pantelic drawing first blood for Beli Orlovi.

Meanwhile, Slovenia had a hard fought goalless draw in Belfast against Northern Ireland.

That's good news for Italy as they go five points clear on both Slovenia and Serbia with a game in hand with 13 points in Group C.

    Group D
Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu kept Romania's UEFA European qualification play-off chances alive with a 3-1 win over Luxembourg.

    Mutu bagged a brace.

Luxembourg can't mathematically win Group D.

    Group E
The most exciting and craziest game in this set of UEFA Euro qualifiers took place at Amsterdam Arena as UEFA Euro 1988 winners the Netherlands maintained their 100% record and move another step closer to the UEFA Euro 2012 finals with a pulsating 5-3 win over Hungary.

Robin Van Persie gave the Oranje a 1-0 halftime lead in the 13th minute. However at the 46th minute, the Arsenal striker left the game after picking up a knock. Former PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United and Real Madrid and current Hamburg striker Ruud van Nistelrooy took his place.

However, Hungary scored two quick strikes in four minutes with Gergely Rudolph scoring in the 46th minute and four minutes later, Fulham midfielder Zoltan Gera gave the former two-time FIFA World Cup runners-up a 2-1 lead.

Inter Milan dynamo midfielder Wesley Sneijder tied the game 2-2 in the 60th minute before van Nistelrooy gave Bert van Marwijk's men a 3-2 lead in the 72nd minute.

But Hungary never gave up. Gera scored his second goal of the game in the 75th minute to make it 3-3.

Still, the Netherlands showed they have more weapons as Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt bagged a late double in the 78th and 81st minute to give Holland another win and move 9 points clear of Hungary and Sweden for first place in Group E at 18 points.

Speaking of the Swedes, the Blagult leapfrogged Hungary for second place in Group E via goal differential with a 2-1 victory over Moldova at the Rasunda Stadium. Mikael Lustig and Birmingham City midfielder Sebastian Larsson scored the goals for the former UEFA Euro 1992 Top 4 finishers.

    Group F
Israel kept their UEFA Euro 2012 hopes alive after edging Georgia 1-0.

Tal Ben Haim, no relation to the defender, scored the only goal of the game.

    Group I
After their hard fought, but disappointing loss to Spain in the weekend, the Czech Republic scored a 2-0 win over bottom feeders Liechtenstein.

Former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Milan Baros and Michael Kadlec scored for the former UEFA Euro 1996 runners-up who solidify their second place standing in Group I.

Meanwhile, defending European and World champions Spain defeated Lithuania and their bad pitch 3-1.

Barcelona maestro midfielder Xavi drew first blood for Vicente Del Bosque's men before Marius Stankevicius's 57th minute goal levels things up at 1-1.

But an own goal from Tadas Kijanskas made it 2-1 Spain and Valencia forward Juan Mata sealed the win for La Furia Roja.

    Group A
    Turkey 2-0 Austria

    Belgium 4-1 Azerbaijan

    Group C
    Estonia 1-1 Serbia

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Slovenia

I have tons of beef with England and how they're running their mix of youth and senior ranks.

I think the FA is making mistakes on their youth by simply not giving them a chance to participate and at times win youth tournaments (i.e. the UEFA U-21 European Championship) and when they have the talent and have quality fringe players who can be role players, the senior ranks wasted them in terms of callups.

Look at Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, France, they're not afraid to rotate and give youth players caps. Same thing with the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Ghana, the United States, Mexico and Australia, they're giving their youth players a chance at the senior level.

And they waited way too long to build and almost complete their National Football Centre in Burton upon Trent, St George's Park.

Look at France with Clairefontaine or Spain with La Ciudad del Futbol, they're producing a lot of great young talent year-in and year-out.

Finally, Germany, Italy, Holland, Spain, France, they know how to play as one cohesive unit while England doesn't.

the FA is full of old farts that dont like change and have the attitude "we invented the game so we cant be wrong and wont learn from johnny foreigner".......

this showed in the early World Cups where England didnt send a team out of arrogance even tho they probably wuda won a few more World Cups!

sometimes its better to watch the under 21s as the talent is there but then you come to the senior side and the 'established' players always get a game even if thye are rubbish!

    aaaaah what can you do?
