Garcia looked real real good. He's throwing a lot harder from last spring. He was 92-93 the whole time with nice sinking movement.

But alas...

The velocity was average, he had very good movement on it though.

command was crap, as expected, and his breaking stuff was inconsistent at best... threw a couple of solid curves and then also a few loopy ones

I thought his FB was above average. I thought I saw plenty of 92-93ss, and not to mention the movement down.

Garcia must undergo at least one more Tommy John before Eiland and Co. can consider adjusting his mechs.

In his defense, command is one of the last things to return.

It's never been Garcia's strong suit. His control is average but he's never had good command. Yesterday was more of the same and likely has little to do with past elbow surgeries.

two things kinda off path ...

steve evarts (LHP) - supp 1st round pick (#43) by atlanta in 2006. had tj surgery last year and had a few off field issues and was released this past summer. can't find anywhere that he resigned with anyone. original scouting report says he pitches 88-92 with the fb and has a 70 change on the 20-80 scale. just turned 22 in oct.

billy cather (CF) - new england kid i followed at u maine - drafted in '08 as a junior by washington, late round pick (33rd). went back for his senior year and improved in runs, hits, 2b, 3b, hr, rbi, sb, 34/25 bb/k ratio, .344/.431.491. original scouting report said he's already major league ready defensively with above-average speed that also plays on the basepaths. went undrafted this year, but i read the yanks were gonna sign him as a FA if a high pick of (heathcott?) didn't sign.

off field issues ... 4 arrests since 2006. first was for smashing someone's car with a bat ... the most recent was in april of this year for battery and pot possession. sounds like a loose cannon, but the yanks must think he has some potential left if they signed him.

i was expecting something worse. its the numbers of arrests thats a little alarming. it seems like a great signing to me
