Twins cite Yankees' coolness in Sweep
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/13/sp...l/13twins.html
I love this article....
First of all……..Denard Span was 12 years old when Jeter was just starting out. That’s scary in that I can’t believe how long ago it was, lol. Jeter is now playing with kids that had posters of him on their walls. Wow.
Secondly, this is article should give all Yankee fans confidence in their team.......

Gardenhire is a good guy, and the Twins play with a lot of heart...definitely a team worthy of respect

And Jeter's not even that old. Think how Jamie Moyer feels, sharing a rotation with guys younger than his own kids.

Re: Twins cite Yankees' coolness in Sweep
And you guys wonder why they're my second team.
I like this:
Sure, the Yankees are talented and classy, but what about their major-league-leading $201 million payroll? Although no one asked about the payroll, Gardenhire broached the topic and stressed that he saw the Yankees as “very, very talented.”
He added: “That’s why they make a lot of money, because they deserve it, because they have played the game for a long time and they get it done. And they know how to get it done and they play with class.”

Gardenhire is class. They are a great baseball organization. Owner won't spend money but they know talent.

The Twins have had competitive teams for a long time under both Tom Kelly and Gardenhire. They have been smart enough to hire good people and have consistently done a good job of developing talent.

Re: Twins cite Yankees' coolness in Sweep
Gardenhire is very classy (such a cliche, but whatever). There are not many managers who would praise the Yankees after they just went like 0-10 against them in regular season and playoffs. I would probably be fuming, especially after some of the blown calls that went against them.
Then again, you can bitch about payroll and whatnot, but where exactly will that get you? When you take the job you accept the fact that there are teams that will have the upper hand on you in the money department. That's just how it is, and I'm glad Gardenhire is not afraid to go against the grain and say some actual good things about this team rather than taking cheap shots at them and blaming them for your misfortunes.

Would we be saying all these nice things about Gardy & Co. if we had been swept instead of vice versa?

No, we would take a page out of Lil Dusty's book and blame the ground crew.

I liked this part.“Every time we put up a run or two or we scored, they don’t panic,” outfielder Denard Span said. “They seemed like they just took a deep breath. It’s almost like they relaxed even more and answered back. They always answer back.”

Re: Twins cite Yankees' coolness in Sweep
Reading the quotes from Anaheim, they seem to be quite the opposite. Its like they have to keep telling themselves that they are not intimidated by the Yankees or the weather.
