Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
I just hope he's not drooling on himself or developing Alzheimers or something awful.
When they showed him at the opening of New Yankee Stadium, he had some assistant lifting his arm up to wave to the crowd.....thats scaryRIP MR. STEINBRENNER

Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
I can't wait for this one. It's the first Yankeeography in quite a while that I've really looked forward to. The guy's been such a HUGE part of the history of the franchise....and there's been some CRAZY ups and downs along the way!

Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
i enjoyed it, didnt really learn too much that i didnt know already. i kinda figured they wouldnt mention whats going on with him no days only that "he's become mortal". the scene at the all star game though is kinda sad seeing this once powerful man sobbing and crying.

Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
I caught it right up until the last 6 minutes when our Charter digital cable box shut itself off and wouldn't reboot. I thought it was well done and did him justice.
I always love hearing Lou Piniella recount the haircut story!

Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
I don't have YES down here, so I missed it. I'll catch it on a torrent if it's available...I do agree with the feeling on seeing Steinbrenner at last year's All-Star Game, really heartbreaking to see.

Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
I thought it was very good, as most Yankeeographies have been....it seemed very sad though. It seemed like they were talking about him in the past tense as if he had already died. I really hope he's around to see #27 in October!

I thought it was a good show.
As a 24-year-old die hard, I love Steinbrenner like a grandfather. I miss him...

Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
I have it on DVR and will hopefully watch it tonight. Like someone else said, this is the first Yankeeography that I've been really psyched to watch since they first started airing them!

I didn't see it, so I'll ask - did they touch on Howie Spira at all?

Verrrrry briefly ... and I don't believe Spira was mentioned by name. They just made an oblique reference to Stein "paying a gambler in an effort to get information to use against Winfield" or some such.

I kind of figured that.

Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
I was kind of underwhelmed by the episode. It was pretty well done (as all Yankeeographies are), but I think they really glossed over some of the controversial stuff (Spira, etc.) and I don't think they really captured quite how unpredictable George was back in the day. That's all somewhat understandable, though. Not only is it a Yankees production, but Yankeeography usually doesn't spend much time on the negative aspects of its subjects anyway.
The thing that I was most disappointed about was that I didn't learn much from it. It basically seemed to be a summary of his career as Yankees owner. I think I heard only one ancedote that I hadn't already heard, and I think it would have been far more interesting if they'd included more anecdotes and stories about George from friends or others that aren't well known.-Kevin

Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
I enjoyed it a lot.
But there was WAAAY too much use of the Steinbrenner kids to tell his story, and not enough from the players and managers who worked for him.

Re: George Steinbrenner Yankeeography (tonight!)
I enjoyed the show.... but WAAAAAAY too much of it was spoken in past-tense
"Mr. Steinbrenner WAS a visionary, he WAS a great business man, he WAS this and he WAS that."
Honestly, the way everybody talked about him,it seemed like George was already dead.
As I watched, I kept finding myself saying "he IS, not he WAS!"
So I really hope The Boss is healthy enough to give speech when we win World Series #27. Old Man Steinbrenner needs to speak!RIP MR. STEINBRENNER
