I'm disappointed that anyone voted for Humberto Sanchez. He does not belong on any top 100 list, until he shows better control, and more consistency.

I'm disappointed anyone voted for Abraham Almonte. This is his second straight year of sucking at low-A Charleston. Right now he's a worse prospect than most fillers.

Re: NYY Fans Summer 09 Top 30 #45
I didn't vote for him, but that's a bit harsh. He hasn't walked a batter in his past 4 appearances (5 innings). He also hasn't allowed a run in his past 6 appearances (9.1 innings). Small sample size, but over his minor league career control hasn't been that huge of an issue. His control is not great and yes he is inconsistent, but the biggest worry with Sanchez is health. The guy hasn't really been healthy since 2006 when he was one of the better prospects in baseball. For Sanchez its really all about health and how he comes back from his injuries. I think the possibility of him being healthy is enough to consider him for our organizations top 50 and certainly top 100.

He just turned 20.....

I know exactly how old he is. Because I follow prospects, I know how many of them fail, and what often makes them fail. After one year of struggling in low-

I will gladly eat my words he ever becomes a decent prospect. There are reasons to be patient with prospects that struggle in the low minors (see Andrew Brackman, TJS), but Almonte doesn't have any of them for me.

Re: NYY Fans Summer 09 Top 30 #45
I tend to agree with you that he trending more toward bust. I think a lot of people are holding out for an Austin Jackson like spurt where he suddenly turns it on and puts it together. While possible, I think its becoming more and more likely that we'll see him go the way of E. Duncan, Vech, and Battle. Although a lot of people are still hesitant to give up on those guys, so it certainly doesn't surprise me to see Almonte still getting fairly strong support.

I think his recent performance makes it more of a long shot, but the talent and potential is still there and he is only 20 so its certainly not out of the realm of possibility.
I think next year is definitely a sink or swim year for him. He's almost certainly going to Tampa with the OF talent we have coming up from SI, GCL, plus the draft (Heathcott). If he struggles next year he may be pushed in a backup role or find himself demoted. A bad year next year and it would be hard not to call him a bust.

Tampa OF- Medchill, Kruml, Mesa. Bench:Fortenberry or Baldridge if either turns it around.
Charleston OF-Grote, Abe, Mack, Zolio/Milo platoon
I guess Abe can move up and DH to make room for Slade in Charleston. I think DeLeon Flores and Ed Sosa will start at SI. Golsan Talerico and Chris Smtih in the GCL I guess. Smith needs to move up soon so maybe Sosa is left behind instead.Updated Minor League Depth Chart (In Progress)
