How Come The Thread Starter Can't Edit The Thread Title?

I have always wondered this. Sometimes even the best of us misspell a word in the thread title.

I normally cut&paste my typing onto microsoft word to verify spelling accuracy.

Good question, and it seems you can change it for the first few minutes like Ryan said, but you have to click on the thread title from the sub-forum it's posted in, and it's a pretty difficult process.

But yeah, I think it should be allowed as well.

I think I see the rationale, though. A stealth SOSHer could start a thread about remembering great Yankee moments, let it grow to 50 pages, and rename it, "Idiot MFY Fans Clinging to the Past" or something. I think a contract of sorts is established that, when you post in a thread, someone will not change the name on you all of a sudden. The potential for abuse is even greater in Political Soapbox. I say keep it the way it is. Mods can and do fix these things and it should be restricted.

It is an occasional hastle when you might accidentally post a mistake, but we mods will usually catch it.

Good point. However, would it be possible to put, say a one hour time mark on it? Meaning it can be changed up to one hour after being created?

Ok. I can admit that was a little harsh. I just think it is silly to have rules like not being able to edit a thread title, because of fear of what punks from another website might do.

If someone were to do what was suggested and change the thread title to make Yankee fans look stupid, that person would be banned and wouldn't be permitted back.

I'm not sure exactly what the reason is (whether it's technical with the forum software or what), but I'm quite sure that the reason isn't that someone from another site might play a trick.

It can be set to allow the user to modify it at will. I have been to sites that allow it. Nothing but trouble.

I disagree here... it would be pretty silly if the thread starter through a hissy fit and was allowed to delete page after page of discussion, just because he didn't like what was being said.
