Three years for a middle reliever is always a bad idea.

Re: Marte Signs for 3 Years ?
Here is the translation for the lazy one's
The Dominican Damaso Marte agreed to three years and $ 12 million with the New York Yankees, as revealed this Wednesday to a reliable source Impactodeportivo.com.do.
Originally, the Yankees had declined an option of six million dollars for 2009.
But assuming its weaknesses in the pitcheo opener, and how useful it can be over Mars in between, have decided to detain him for three years and $ 12 million.
Mars has launched in Major Leagues with the Mariners, Pirates, White Sox and the Yankees.
For life has Effectiveness of 3.29.

Re: Marte Signs for 3 Years ?
Unbelievalbe. Considering there were three options here, this was the worst of the three.

Re: Marte Signs for 3 Years ?
This will be spun as Cash saving $2M this season. I feel he is trying to justify his trade for the guy he's been going after ever since he traded him for the immortal Enrique Wilson.

Well, if this is true, lets hope for a rebound and dominate year....still not the outcome I would have liked with him...

Remember when that Latin American newspaper announced Jose Veras as the heir to Mariano's kingdom?
Good times...

Re: Marte Signs for 3 Years ?
Even if not that, ONE YEAR of Marte by picking up his option and seeing how he performs in 2009 would have been ok.

Re: Marte Signs for 3 Years ?
I'm not going to lie, I've lost all faith in this team when it comes to general management. They constantly overpay in dollars and years, make dumb trades or don't make good ones, and now they throw away flexibility for no apparent reason.
I just don't understand it.Win one for The Boss.

Re: Marte Signs for 3 Years ?
There was absolutely no guarantee we would have gotten a first round pick for him. He would have had to be the highest rated FA signed by a top 15 team. Also, with the financial resources we should be able to commit to the draft, we can sign away a lot of players in the middle/late rounds that could eventually develop into first round types of players.

Re: Marte Signs for 3 Years ?
I'm not sure whether to laugh or sigh when I read this. I guess we'll know 24 hours after CC signs. Because I could totally see them going the Dempster, Oliver Perez, 5 years of Derek Lowe = total outlay to CC route.

I have no problem at all keeping Marte. I wanted them to keep him in fact.

Re: Marte Signs for 3 Years ?
I was all for Marte staying here, but it was dumb to sign him to a 3 year deal when we already had him signed for next year. Cashman obviously hasnt learned after Karsay and Farnsworth that you dont sign relievers to multi year deals.
If you listen to the fans you’ll be sitting with them soon enough.- Brian Cashman

Re: Marte Signs for 3 Years ?
Yeah especially not when the strength of your entire organization seems to be relievers.
