Best $400,000 they've spent in a long time

This is the equivalent of walking onto a used-car lot with $15,000 in your pocket; and you walk away buying a rust riddled 1982 Chevette for $500 when you could have had a 1986 Mustang Cobra for the same money....

Could spend a better $400,000 on Barry.

Historically Wilson has been trash from the right side, but this year his splits are actually pretty similar (though still tilted a bitto the left). Maybe he's making strides? Probably not, but hey.

Re: The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
For $390k, it's not terrible. Especially if he can hit a friggin' lefty.
He still covers a lot of area with those long arms, too.Attention Steinbrenner and front-office morons! Your triumphs mean nothing. You all stink. You can sit on it, and rotate! This is George Costanza. I fear no reprisal. Extension 5-1-7-0.

It was pretty obvious for a while that this was going to happen.

He's been blackballed by baseball, no one will sign him anyway

Good signing, mashes LHP and actually has some upside. And is a defensive upgrade too.

holy crap.

Ponson, Sexson. Who's next? The retired Kevin Brown?
j/k...so far I've eaten crow with Ponson so I'll be happy to eat more crow with this signing.

This is a signing that I don't really care much about. I can totally see him put up Ensberg type #'s.

Re: The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
The rationale for not signing bonds was that we had too many of a certain kind of player.
So lets go out and sign that exact kind of player anyway, only a worse one?

Re: The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
He's probably got more left in the tank than either of them. If it doesn't work, it won't matter because we probably aren't losing anything by starting him against lefties over Betemit.

It's a little less optimistic if you look at the '06-'07 OPS vs. lefties: .759

He will hopefully help against LHP.
However, the fact that the $200 million, mighty New York Yankees have to go dumpster diving for the last place Mariners' scraps is a little embarrassing.2010 Yankees: Believe

He has done better but guess what? That better is still really, really bad. .235 BA/ .257 OBP / .669 OPS

Against LHP, Betemit is sitting at .669 and Melky is at .575

Re: The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
I think this move goes squarely in the "well, he can't do worse than what we're throwing out there now" category.
If he even sniffs the plate vs a right-hander, we'll have to send someone to investigate the unexplained disappearance of Joe Girardi's brain.I have mail-order degrees in Yankeeology and Yankeeonomy!

Re: The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
Just so my stance is clear, I don't think Sexson will help at all offensively. He will be an excellent defensive replacement, and hit an occasional HR. I wonder if Chad Moeller will finally get the axe

I really don't understand why many of you are surprised. This is exactly what Cashman said he would do when he laid out his "Statue of Liberty" strategy.
