The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
Buster Olney was just on a Seattle sports radio station and said the Yankees have signed Richie Sexson, so no link as of now.

Re: The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
I thought he doesn't clear waivers until Saturday? If the Yanks are paying the rest of his contract, I think Cashman is a moron.

He's mashing left handed pitching this year. That's a start.

OMG You have got to be kidding me. Great job Cashman, this horrible signing is really going to put the Yankees over the hump. Way to improve the offense, get another guy who strikes out all of the time and is hitting below .230. Now we can have 6 automatic outs in the lineup.

Re: The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
Good signing IMO, as he is hitting lefties fairly well. Granted, his numbers against lefties the last three years are poor, but it doesn't hurt to see if we can catch lightning in a bottle.

Not vs Lefties. If he hits vs a righty, EVER, they should fire garardi.

Not very happy about this, but what the hell. We need to shake things up a little.

Re: The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
If they use him against lefties (and he keeps hitting them this year) and as a pinch hitter, he's a clear upgrade over what we have on the bench or in AAA.
Is he a savior for the offense? No. Would I rather see him come in to pinch hit than Justin Christian or Chad Moller? Yes.

Everybody is criticizing this move but as soon as he starts hitting and making a difference, I can already see the "Official Richie Sexson Appreciation" thread and mandatory butt kissing begin to pop up... Stop knit picking every move and just let it unfold a bit before you all start double guessing!

If the Mariners released Sexson, they're responsible for his salary. The Yankees would have to pay him the major-league minimum, the M's pick up the rest.

His numbers against lefties are good this year, but in 2006-7 they sucked.

His 3 year split from 05-07 has his OPS vs. lefties at .881. In what world is that poor? His BB/K ratio from that side is 2/3 which isn't too bad for a power guy.

Atleast we don't have to see Betemit as a defensive replacement anymore. And they finally stopped kidding themselves that Betemit could hit from the right side.

I was under the assumption he didn't clear waivers until this Saturday, so I figured the Yanks were footing the rest of the bill.

Re: The Yankees Have Signed Richie Sexson (per Buster Olney)
Exactly. Good pickup here. Sexson provides right-handed power and a legitimate first baseman who can replace Giambi in the late innings and sub for him against lefty pitching. He's having a horrible year, but he's still better than Betemit.

Well, I guess I don't have a problem with Sexson perse. Now all Cashman needs to do is sign Barry.
