How long does Cervelli have until he comes back? They could put him on the 60 day if they need too...

Still rehabbing and isn't close to playing games.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Didn't want my analysis to cloud the objectivity of the list.
With the way the 40 man roster is set and the impending draft next week (which means no trades by any team until they finshed hunkering down)... any replacements have to be made w/in the list above.
From the pitching side we are likely to see either Karstens (before he tweaked his groin), Patterson or our favorite import Igawa. My guess is that Patterson will be called up for bullpen help and replace the human shuttle Britton (makes no sense to have him up if Girardi never uses him).
While I would love for Giese to get a chance - it would require us to trade (not happening this week), release (don't see Cash getting rid of Hawkins), or placing someone from 15 day to 60 day (Albaladejo??).
From the positional side - a cleanup on aisle 3 needs to take place.
Having 5 catchers on the 40 man roster and potentially 3 (when Posada returns) is not healthy. Obvious answer is to cut Moeller when Posada comes off DL (and hope we can resign him to AAA if/when he clears waivers)
The other issue is there is no speed on the bench and too many similar unproductive players
For the Betemit/Duncan/Ensberg trio - only one should be on the roster. Since Cash is orgasmic about Betemit - that leaves sending Duncan back down (see if they can reverse the black hole created in his swing) for Bernie Castro (a speed guy who can play the middle IF - who would take Moeller's spot on 40 man) or Justin Christian (speed guy who can play OF) and DFA Ensberg and give Lane or Brossard a chance.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Bernie Castro is slugging .253 with 2 doubles and no triples or home runs in AAA. He doesn't deserve to be called up.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Depends what your looking for... if you are looking at giving Gonzalez regular playing time in the minors and looking to call up a "pinch runner" and backup middle infielder - than Castro more than meets the needs. Additionally if you had to DFA, he's disposable b/c he'll be 29 next month.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Morgan Ensberg needs to be gone (DFA'd) YESTERDAY. If you have Betemit and Duncan, why would Ensberg play at all? Shelley at least has some versatility with his ability to play RF.
For the love of GOD, please stop talking Hank.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
I heard on the radio pregame show that Karstens re-injured his groin, that was why he was removed from a game early yesterday. DK if this means a new trip to the DL.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Giese was pull after pitching one inning today which to me indicates he's going to get called up either tomorrow or Tuesday.
It's all Cashman's fault!

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
If that happens I would think Stewart or Traber get the DFA.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
No need with Ensberg off the roster. Patterson was already on the 40 man roster.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Isn't Sanchez going to be back pitching in games this month? I guess that would mean someone else needs to go for him to be able to do that.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Eventually but he can get 30 days of minor league rehab without having to put him back on the roster. That at least buys them some time.

Also, that clock doesn't start until he appears in official minor league games.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Giese will be the man to be called up Tuesday.
Either Patterson or Britton will be put down. (poor Chris)
that is the plan right now...got this from real source.
Duncan may weather this....Oh man....

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
At this point it might as be Britton... if you can't use him yesterday or today... then he's just wasting space (not his fault of course).

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Not only that, but sooner or later they're going to have to cut Hawkins loose because he hasn't pitched since his last blowup and he's the only well rested reliever not being used other than Britton.

What the in the world is Chris Stewart still doing on the 40 man roster?

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Cervelli is not ready, if Posada gets hurt again after Moeller is DFAed, we have no one with Major League experience to pair with Molina. Call it being extra cautious, which is very warranted in this case.

Probably Britton. Slight chance of Patterson.

Re: Official 40 Man Roster Tracker
Stewart is nto a Major leauge worthy catcher, he cant hit and sucks defensively. Did you see him in that game catching Phil Hughes?? He didnt know the signs and constantly got crossed up with Hughes. The Yanks have already said they will carry Moeller, Molina and Posada once Jorge returns. I would rather have John Stewart catch than chris Stewart
