Agree with you 100%. But, I think he will always hold a special place in fans' hearts because of his heroics in the playoffs last year. Was at the game and the fans showed him some love with each at bat. And each inning that he took the field he had a nice rapport going with the fans in LF, waving, saluting and tipping his cap to them. It's obvious that he loved his time here and the fans showed their appreciation.

Maybe Sterling picked up on that.

I especially like that the SB Nation "writer" from the Seattle area who (correctly obviously) criticizes Montero for "major, avoidable, fundamental mistakes" does so in a sentence following one in which the writer mispells the word "preparation".

Tacoma's #2 catcher was called up to the majors, and the Mariners' AA catcher was promoted to Tacoma to replace him. Looks like Montero may be moving out from behind the plate.

He's going to play 1B/DH at AAA.

Oh and it probably means Zunio will be called up about a week after it is clear he won't hit super-2 status. Though I don't think he's tearing it up in AAA so Mariners can easily justify keeping him down on non-arb clock issues.

Yeah that's a great story for another 2-3 weeks and then Zunio is probably the #1 C in Seattle. Assuming Zunio starts hitting in Tacoma.

He's hitting .208 with a .590 OPS. The deal for Pineda doesn't have the same stench it had one year ago, especially with Pineda apparently not suffering loss of pitch speed from the operation.

I didn't think it had stench at the time of the trade. If the trade was reversed and we gave up an arm that did what Pineda did at his age, this place would have went even more nuts.

Yep, Chavez is especially having kick-ass year thus far.

I still have faith that Montero will be a very good hitter. Obviously, 1B/DH is his best option, and it's far too early in his career for him to be labelled a bust. I wouldn't mind if he found his way back to the Bronx.

I definitely agree Montero should NOT be labeled a bust at this early juncture. But on the same breath this goes to show how premature it was last year (after word of Pinieda's surgery) to call the trade a bust. Too early to say either side got the best/worst of it.
