Its my birthday on Saturday and Matsui was my favorite player, and I just received one of those plaques from Steiner that features WS dirt and a photo of our WS MVP from my dad today as a present. Sigh

Re: The Former Yankee Performance Thread v4.0
From Jason Stark's column re: end of the season AL awards...
For those reasons, he has Jackson #1 on his AL ROTY ballot.Austin Jackson is on pace to hit .305, score 107 runs, steal 25 bases and get 188 hits. The only player in history to have a year like that in his rookie season was Ichiro Suzuki, back in 2001. And ohbytheway, on the other side of the ball, the Fielding Bible also ranks Jackson as the No. 1 defensive center fielder in baseball.

Re: The Former Yankee Performance Thread v4.0
So I took my nephew to a Somerset Patriots game last night...they were playing the Bridgeport Bluefish - among the former MLB player names that were familiar like Esteban Yan and Jorge Julio was Josh Phelps...even if you're hitting .313 there, at what point is it time to hang up the spikes?
I think Wily mo pena was signed to a minor league deal from that team by the Padres and was assigned to AAA..is that the hope? I don't know -- seems kind of sad.
