I hate him.CHICAGO (AP)—Carl Pavano pitched a three-hitter for his fifth career shutout and Mark DeRosa hit a three-run homer, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 6-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.
Pavano (6-4) handled the White Sox lineup with relative ease in his first shutout since May 17, 2005, while a member of the Yankees. He faced four batters over the minimum.

pretty damn cool. sounds like Ohlendorf should be a GM in the future. he'd be that rare ex-player plus financial-mind that is the ideal.

Billy Beane was quite the prospect, though his major league career wasn't so hot.

White Sox right-hander Jose Contreras punctuated his comeback from a severe Achilles injury by earning American League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America honors for the period ending Sunday.
Contreras posted a spotless ERA of 0.00 in 16 innings in winning both of his decisions -- his first wins of the season -- to claim the weekly award for the first time in his career.

Nickname of the day
LHP Randy Choate, above, has been called "Mo" by teammates recently — after Yankees closer Mariano Rivera — ever since he picked up three saves (after waiting 198 appearances for his first one). Choate said he told Rivera, his former throwing partner with the Yankees, on the team's last trip to New York. "He thought it was hilarious," Choate said.“Sometimes all of us need to be reminded that this is just a kid’s game. We just happen to be grown men playing it.” --Mike Stanton

Newark Bears sign Ramiro Mendoza

Yankee Legend Now Pitching for the Newark Bears
The Newark Bears just announced the signing of four new major leaguers who have joined the roster. The bullpen will be improved with the addition of Ramiro Mendoza, Chris Spurling, and Sean Tracey. Ramiro Mendoza is the former New York Yankees star who was the setup man for Mariano Rivera from 1996-2002 and helped the team win a World Series title in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Mendoza later joined the Boston Red Sox and picked up his 4th World Series ring in 2004 as a member of the Boston Red Sox (where he was a teammate of Keith Foulke). Over the course of his nine (9) year major league career, Mendoza boasts a record of 59-40 with a 4.29 earned run average.“Sometimes all of us need to be reminded that this is just a kid’s game. We just happen to be grown men playing it.” --Mike Stanton
