He's A LOT better than O'Neill.

John Flaherty is an absolute natural in the booth. He's not only able to make coherent and appropriate comments, but he's got an excellent sense of timing as well. I could see him in the booth even if he hadn't played professional ball -- and there's not a single other color man I can say that about.

Paulie really amuses me in the booth, so he definitely has that going for him. He's a funny guy.

I love both Flaherty and O'Neill in the booth. I don't think Flaherty was used to three guys in the booth -- sometimes he wasn't sure when to speak and he talked over Singleton a bit (I'm not a huge Singleton in the booth fan so I didn't mind that but it was a little awkward).

i like when paulie chuckles during the broadcast (like when he read halladay's lips after giving up melky's HR)
by the way, halladay said, "this f*cking ballpark"

Re: The Former Yankee Performance Thread v4.0
He can't carry the color commentary by himself though. He's got a great sense of humor and interesting things to say, but he is just not as fundamentally sound as a sports broadcaster should be. Too much mumbling, too many vocalized pauses (count the number of times he says "I mean" during a broadcast), etc. I would like him a lot more if they put him in the booth as a third guy along with a more experienced color commentator, like they're doing with Flaherty this series. Flaherty can carry a broadcast by himself, Paulie can't.

That's pretty funny. It's not like Blue Jays hitters can't take advantage of the same dimensions.

The player we received in return on that trade didn't do so hot last night either. Still pulling for Meat, still think he's our best bench player in some time, but damn did he look utterly lost against some mediocre pitchers last night.

The Nationals selected the contract of catcher Wil Nieves from Triple-A Columbus and optioned right-hander Chris Schroder to Columbus on Wednesday.
Nieves is considered a fundamentally sound catcher, but a weak hitter. He appeared in 16 Spring Training games, hitting .174 (4-for-23) with one RBI, before he was reassigned to Minor League camp on March 23.

Surprised nobody brought this up: Chacon was brilliant Tuesday night against the Phils, but Valverde blew the save:

For a guy coming off a season as a RELIEVER for the Pirates that's damn good.

Good for him. I'll probably always carry a favorable view of Chacon for his performance in 2005.

http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/04/2...rom-cleveland/Congrats to good guy Wil Nieves, who hit first major league homer tonight. It was a two-run walk-off blast for the Nationals against the Cubs.

Andy Cannizaro, who homered with the Yankees when he was called up in late 2006, was called up by Tampa Bay. Elliot Johnson (who hurt Cervelli) was sent down.

I'm happy for him.SI: Do you have a secret ambition?

In his 385th career game (327th start), Jon Lieber gave up 4 home runs in a game today for the first time in his career. Going into the game, Lieber averaged about 4 home runs allowed per 31 1/3 innings pitched. He pitched 2 innings today.
