They don't fade as fast or shrink much in cold water. Ive washed jeans plenty of times (warm water) and theyve never shrunk nor faded. I wash them inside out though.

Hot water is unnecessary, and wasteful. Washing your jeans in cold water is sufficient, unless of course you're rolling in mud. Which, you may very well be, I don't know for sure.

I always wash them in cold water because I think the color lasts better. Trish is correct, very few things actually have to be washed in hot water. Most experts in "green" living recommend washing pretty much everything in cold water, personally I think some things do need hot water, but you can wash a lot more in cold than people think.

I can't even remember the last time I used the hot water setting on my washer, although I think my husband has on some of his work clothes on occasion.

I wash our undies, socks and towels in warm water. Darks are always done in cold, and I'll do most light colors in cold too, unless they're particularly soiled.

I thought faded jeans were cool?

My mom taught me to wash almost everything in cold water.

I use the warm setting for colors (which is actually tepid at best) and hot for whites. Honestly, I can't imagine anything less than scalding being enough for some of what I've seen in the whites. Am I wrong?

I don't even sort by color when I do laundry anymore so I use cold water so the colors don't screw up.

    And that works for you??
Ok, hypothetical question coming; suppose you have an "accident" and that sits in the fabric for a day. Are you confident that cold water would make things all better??

What does presoak do? Just sit there captivating my crappy shorts with promises of vibrating action? Sorry but the rest of my torso already fell for that. My underwear wants a scrubbing without all the promises.

Presoak is like a few cocktails before, well, let's just say it loosens everything up a bit.

From the sound of things, your underwear needs replacing, not washing.

Rolling around in mud may not be so bad considering the OP.

I'm not really sure what would be going on in the world for me to bring up your ass, so I assure you, nothing personal.

Funny cause I wash all of my colored together and use warm water. Except when I do my bedding/towels/undergarments I use hot water and bleach and they all live.

If you're aiming to bring up my ass I better at least know your first name!

edit: This is my last post of the night and I make only the attempt to send myself to sleep with a laugh. Certainly no offense to you as any discussion concerning my ass can be offensive to everyone.
