Re: The "I just saw a movie that doesn't warrant its own thread" (Version 2.0)
I liked The Dictator more than you did. I think it was funny enough to be worth seeing if you've liked his other movies. It's a different type of movie since it's totally scripted, but it has a similar feel to his other work. If you hated Borat, though, I doubt you'll like this.

I'll watch it at some point but don't feel the urgency to see it in a theater. The only movie of his that I really liked was Borat. btw..Cohen was on Letterman yesterday..as himself, not in character, which was interesting, because he always seems to make public appearances in character.

I saw Battleship over the weekend (didn't pay for it).
At one point, I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. I don't think the filmmakers had intended for that sequence to be funny.
It was decent for what it was -- a free movie in which Transformers appear in the ocean and $#!+ blows up. And several unintentionally funny scenes mixed in with some intentionally funny scenes.
They get props for explaining why they had a battleship in the ocean when all of them are actually retired but no props for the lack of explanation as to why that ship had live ordnance.

Anyone seen Dark Shadows?

Good teaser in that it doesn't reveal much of anything. Just happy that they're making another Daniel Craig Bond movie. Hopefully it makes up for the disappointing Quantum of Solace. Not sure if that movie was really bad on it's own or just a big let down after how awesome Casino Royale was.
Craig is starting to look old though. Who should replace him as Bond?

GF and I watched Iron Lady over the weekend. I knew the reviews were not great but I figured Meryl Streep as Maggie, Best Actress Oscar winner--how bad can it be?
I hated the film. It's really a film about a sclerotic old lady who used to be a kickass Brit PM. I wanted the second part, and they really didn't do a good job on that. MS was great in her portrayal on the first part, but I really had no interest in watching that. There are enough tragic, sclerotic old folks in my life that I have no interest in seeing someone pretend to be one."Deep to left! Yastrzemski will not get it! It's a home run! I happened to catch To Die For last night. I've seen it before, a couple of times, but I'd forgotten just how good a movie it is. Buck Henry's screenplay is savagely funny, Nicole Kidman was brilliant, and the supporting cast was first-rate - Matt Dillon, Dan Hedaya, Joaquin Phoenix, Casey Affleck, Newman from Seinfeld, and others.
As a fringe benefit, I managed to miss the first half of that putrid baseball game.A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.- Barry Manilow

I watched "The Adjustment Bureau" last night. It was OK. Nothing really amazing or awful about it. Top two things I took away from it are A) John Slattery must wear a fedora in everything. He looks too werid without one at this point. B) I have a huge crush on Emily Blunt. Screw you Krasinski.

Big controversy reported on the news this morning is Bond giving up his shaken martini's for Heinekin beer. Gotta love product placement.

GI Joe Retaliation (I think that's what it's called) has been delayed until March 2013 so it can be converted to 3D.

Daniel Craig covers this issue: http://news.moviefone.com/2012/04/16...n_1429567.html
It's kind of like shirt sponsors or the naming rights to stadiums. End of the day there are things that cost of lot of money, movies with a lot of special effects, star players, etc...
Honestly, I think it's rather stupid of Heineken, they'll face backlash instead of gaining any positive notoriety, in any other movie, probably a good idea.NYYFans FBBL: Babe's Blasts

Re: The "I just saw a movie that doesn't warrant its own thread" (Version 2.0)
I think it was time to move on. Josiah Bartlet in The West Wing had it right:
According to Wikipedia, in Ian Fleming's time the vodka, then made from potatoes, tended to be oily and shaking disguised this. If Bond can use the most modern gadgets, he can update his drinking. However, beer seems a touch common, but then so does Daniel Craig.Bartlet: Can I tell you what's messed up about James Bond?
Young: Nothing.
Bartlet: Shaken, not stirred, will get you cold water with a dash of gin and dry vermouth. The reason you stir it with a special spoon is so not to chip the ice. James is ordering a weak martini and being snooty about it"Deep to left! Yastrzemski will not get it! It's a home run! A three-run homer by Bucky Dent! And the Yankees now lead by a score of 3-2!" - New York Yankees announcer Bill White (October 2, 1978)

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter has a new red band trailer out. Still ridiculous, but I like the look of the movie and this actually shows what the vampires look like and what Abe is capable of. Red band for violence, no cursing or nudity.
