Re: Complete list of 2007 New York Yankee draftees
Looks like we may not be hearing anything from Storen until the last day:
http://www.flyergroup.com/sports/loc...176210607.html
Storen will make his decision later this summer.
“It (New York) is a great organization,” Storen said. “We’ll see what happens with the negotiations and everything, but it’s too soon to tell what I’ll do. It depends on what the offer from the Yankees is, so I’ll decide on Aug. 15 (the last day drafted players can sign).”Mo' Nut: One Smoove Brotha.

Re: Complete list of 2007 New York Yankee draftees
As long as we can get Angelini, Brackman, Romine, Suttle, Carpenter and Weems done (and it looks like we will be able to) to go along with those already signed this will be an incredibly successful draft. I would view Peavey, Storen, Komastsu, Holle and Mahoney as bonuses if they get done.

Weems is done and apparently Angelini too.

I would say that even leaving out Suttle and Carpenter we have had a incredibly successful draft with Angelini, Grote, Weems, Sublett, and Brackman.
I think we will get Carpenter and Peavey.
Storen is really unlikely but I think Holle will get done as well.

Re: Complete list of 2007 New York Yankee draftees
Talked to Carp again today. Had a scheduled visit to his elbow surgeon; had an MRI just to be sure everything was OK. Report- Elbow and ligament strong and solid, slight strain and inflammation from too many pitches after a 16 day layoff. No cortizone shot needed, just some anti-inflams, a week or 2 rest and then ease back into things again making sure pain is gone before cranking it back up off the mound. I know Chris thought it was a minor deal and it was.

Re: Complete list of 2007 New York Yankee draftees
There were no roster spots open at the Cape when all the regular contract guys got there by July 1, so he came home. I am not sure where he will pitch when he is ready. I know he can still work out and lift with no restrictions so he will stay strong. He is a workout fanatic. I think his coaches and advisor will get that taken care of for him.

I would love it if this simply dropped his pricetag a bit and they snapped him up.

Re: Complete list of 2007 New York Yankee draftees
I don't know exactly what Carp and his advisor are looking for dollar-wise but I am fairly certain it is not ridiculous considering his ability, 2 years of elgibility left and projectibility. I'm sure they have taken the injury thing into account, but TJ surgery in recent years has a high rate of successful returns. That's why I doubt the $$ would be dropped much, but that last bit is speculation on my part and I could be wrong. I do think he would love to sign if the offer (if it comes) is fair.

Re: Complete list of 2007 New York Yankee draftees
Fuzzy, here's to hoping the Yankees do make a fair offer this year. It would be a huge mistake for the Yankees not to pursue him. The Yankees are the place where he will be able to optimize his significant talents. Maybe a little compromise is in order, but by no means is it in the best interest of the Yankees or Carpenter for either to walk away from this opportunity.

Re: Complete list of 2007 New York Yankee draftees
how can you say there are no means by which the yankees should walk away from this opportunity? how about him being hurt and already having poor command of his pitches? at least brackman had incredible stuff and projectability
the money he will ask for based on his potential is not likely to be near what a team values him at, even the yankees. we can all pretend the yankees can afford to draft and sign any high ceiling talent, but they cant take a total risk on someone unless that ceiling is frighteningly sky high (betances, brackman)
the kid is hurt, he has a long injury history, his workload in college has been minimal, his command of his pitches is terrible, and he has no changeup
hes also a draft eligible sophmore with a ton of leverage. the kid is better off going back to school.

Re: Complete list of 2007 New York Yankee draftees
Hughes2.50 and Skars,
I can't say that I disagree with either of your opinions. Projectibility can be a guess at best sometimes. You could also use an argument about how many pitchers over 6'7" other than Randy Johnson have had really nice pro careers. There have been more real tall guys drafted than most people know, but very few have been heard from.
There are very few sure things in drafting baseball players. That's why it is interesting to hear all your takes on these guys.
All I will say in Carp's benefit is that I know of no one who will out work him. Maybe also it would be interesting to hear from a Cape leaguer who faced him. I would say 13 K's, 4 BB's OPP BA of .200 in 9 inn. isn't all that bad.
I'm sure it will work out for everyone involved whether he signs or goes back to school.

i agree with everything you've said. i'd love to see the yankees sign him, but not at the cost of not signing a holle, storen, or peavey

Given the information about Weems getting pre-selection offers of $289,000 from the Phillies during the draft, does anyone know the rules as to when these discussions can take place? It seems like prospects are pretty free to field explicit offers from multiple teams and would lead to serious issues as to fairness. I guess if the Phillies wanted him badly enough they could have drafted him anyway and negotiated but I didn't realize how open the negotiations were before players were even drafted.

I think teams are pretty free to say (at least on draft day), "Would you sign if we draft you and pay you X".

Teams are definately allowed to make an offer over the phone on draft day. Happens all the time. Many times it happens just minutes before they pick in a particular round.

Henderson and South Troy cleanup hitter Greg Holle (Christian Brothers Academy) combined for six hits and five runs scored. The duo are three-year veterans on South Troy’s top Connie Mack squad and helped lead the Dodgers to an appearance in the 2006 Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, N.M.
South Troy this summer seeks a fourth World Series journey to New Mexico since 2000.
“They are the guys to lead us,” South Troy coach George Rogers said of Henderson and Holle. “Our middle of the lineup has to produce and they have been.”
Rogers has also asked Henderson and Holle to step up their leadership roles with the team — something they both gladly accept.
“It is definitely a lot different than when we first starting playing on this team,” Holle said. “Two years ago, we had Joe Mahoney leading us and last year, guys like Kyle Meyer, Ryan Powers and Jim Devine were the leaders. It is now our time to step up.”
“Our main goal right now is getting ready for the World Series qualifier (July 4-8 in Troy). We have a lot of pitching, so we have to make sure we score plenty of runs for them.”
