Move over Kevin Millar, the O's have a new star: Aubrey Huff
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/b...tory?track=rss
The Orioles reached an agreement early this morning on a three-year contract with free agent Aubrey Huff, several industry sources confirmed today.
Huff, a 30-year-old slugger who can play first and third base and both corner outfield spots, is expected to take a physical in Baltimore next week.

Man, how can we compete with a team that is able to pay Huff 20 million dollars.

In a world where Julio Lugo gets 4 yrs/$36 million and Gary Matthews gets 5/50, Huff's contract is downright reasonable.

It's great ain't it? While the other teams in the East fatten up on artery clogging mediocrity we are starting to trim down little by little.

Is he expected to play 1B, 3B or the outfield?

Someone mentioned to me that they've got Mora at 3B, Payton in LF and Markakis (spl?) in RF. That leaves 1B for him.

Funny thing, he's only slightly worse than Carlos Lee:

It'll probably go Huff in left with Millar at first, and Payton coming off the bench against lefties for Patterson.

Aubrey Huff is a perfect Oriole. This is the team that stockpiled guys like B. J. Surhoff, Jeff Conine, Marty Cordova, Rafael Palmeiro, Will Clark, and so on. Now they're starting to run low on slow white guys who can play corner positions badly...Huff fills the need. Usually the O's wait until the guy is old and/or injured enough to eliminate any possibility of athleticism, but I don't think Huff is much of a danger there.

Four years after this meant anything.
