Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Message Boards for Other Teams: A List

Since there have been a couple queries about message boards for other teams in the past couple days, I thought it might be useful to have some sort of list of good fan sites around the MLB. My goal is to have only two or three sites per team--it's not meant to include every forum out there. I also prefer to post forum sites over blogs, although if a blog has a game thread or is really, really good, I'll include it. Thanks for all the suggestions! Edit: Updated on 8/3/11-- New input...

  1. The Red Sox Thread

Now that the Community Standards are back online, we can re-start a discussion of the Red Sox. As per those Standards, any posting in this thread must be done in a civil manner. That means a genuine discussion without baiting, trolling, flaming or mocking using words or pictures etc. That doesn't mean you can't state your opinions of a player or the team, but do it in a respectful manner. Repeated warnings for those who don't comply will result in the loss of access to the Around the Majors...

  2. Wild Card games thread

Isn't anyone watching Royals vs A's? It's actually quite entertaining. Lester had the Royals down 7-3 in the 8th ... they cut it to 7-6 that inning, tied it in the ninth, and it's now in the bottom of the eleventh. Royals have the leadoff man on.

  3. What team are you rooting for if the Yankees miss the playoffs?

I'd like to see Kansas City do well. In the National League I'm pulling for the Nationals. A Royals/Nationals World Series would be awesome.

  4. Somewhere bobbyjr is smiling

The Orioles and those poor small market KC Royals are both in the division series while the Yankees and Red Sox are watching at home. Or maybe he's actually mad because he can no longer complain about the unfair economic conditions of MLB. Either way, God bless you, bobby.

  6. 2014 Robinson Cano Prediction Thread

Let's have a little fun and predict how Cano will fare as a Mariner in 2014. Feel free to suggest other stats you'd like to include and we'll adjust accordingly. We can also use this thread to discuss his career as a Mariner and what we see in store for him throughout the year. I'll start it off BA- .289 HR- 24 RBI- 87 OBP- .358

  10. Keith Olbermann is an A-hole

Besides a myriad of numerous other reasons why this washed-up fool is an ignoramus, this contention of his regarding Derek Jeter is the ink-stamp that precludes any doubt.

  12. The New York Mets Thread

I decided to start a Mets thread because there have been a collection of smaller Mets threads in ATM and I think it would be best if we just had a larger thread to cover all things Mets. Two things about them strike me today... 1. Pelfry looked pretty good last night. 2. I have a feeling the Mets fans across the nation are beginning to sweat a little bit because right now the Braves are mashing. Ok. Go ahead, start discussing.

  13. Giancarlo Stanton

Odds are likely the Marlins are going to trade him if you listen to the insiders around the game , it will take prospects and probably one of the biggest contracts in the history of baseball which would obviously take some teams out of the running irrelevant how highly touted their prospects are. Buster Olney has a piece on it listing the 8 teams with the best odds, putting the Yankees 4th and said would probably work better for the Yankee odds if the deal happened after the 2015 season with...

  14. Good seats in Citi Field?

Hi all, so I'm thinking of taking my first trip next week to visit Citi Field for the Nats/Mets (wife is a Nats fan), I basically know nothing about the ballpark so just wanted to get input on good areas to sit, things to see, parking cost etc. without doing a lot of internet searching while at work :) I really don't want to spend more than $40 ea. or so on tickets, it'll be 3 of us. Thanks!

  15. How About a New Baseball Playoff Format ?

Reduce the regular season to, at most, 154 games, or even less. Add, at least, another round of playoffs (all best-of-seven). 2 divisions in each league, top 4 teams in each division qualify. Home field to best record throughout, division winners next HFA. Since playoff competition is the most exiting, more interest. More teams in the hunt as the season winds down, while potentially more lower teams in position to play spoiler. More $$ to the better teams, so more incentive to improve/spend for...

  16. Jose Dariel Abreu...?

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/08/jose-dariel-abreu-escapes-from-cuba.html#disqus_thread I remember watching this dude in the WBC. He has tremendous power and just looks like a legit baseball player. The Yankees have missed on a handful of IFA lately (Puig, Darvish, Ryu, Cespedes, Chapman, etc...) so do you think they will be interested In this guy? I surely hope we take the gamble. And Cuba, suddenly, is producing crazy baseball players!

The Tigers have acquired Joakim Soria from the Rangers for minor-league pitchers Jake Thompson and Corey Knebel. Would've loved to have added Soria to our bullpen but knew it wasn't going to happen.

  18. Mike Trout: Road to Cooperstown, year 3.

Just hit the longest (489 ft) homerun in MLB since 2012. It didn't look like he got all of it. Leading MLB with 5.4WAR 182WRC+ And he's actually having a down year defensively with only 4.6 defensive runs (vs. 34 offensive). Running away with AL MVP, barring injuries and significant slumps. To age 21 for all of baseball history:

  19. New MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred

As you all know Manfred was voted unanimously to succeed Selig in January. I found a pretty good interview with the Harvard Law Gazette about his take on the game, job, future, etc. http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2014/08/running-the-show/
