Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. 2008 MLB Schedule Makers

What is up with these guys? Did they not learn from this year? The Indians, whose 4-game home-opening series was snowed out in April this year, opens the season at home on March 31 against the White Sox. What are the odds of that series being played? I'm betting we'll still have snow on the ground (not to mention the cold)...The Indians haven't started a season at home in more than 5 years, basically due to weather...These guys are freakin' geniuses. By the way, I'm loving the Indians...

  3. The Official "GO ROX!" Thread

That's right, I am picking the Rockies. Why? They have the makeup of a great well built team. A fighting cinderella story that makes me have hope that there is someone out there who can take out Boston. I pick the Rox. I can't help but like guys who are young and play the game right... Holliday, Tulowitzki, Hawpe... and of course the greybeard of the team Helton. Bless you boys...

  5. Congrats Red Sox on the 2007 World Series

They won it and even though it sucks as a Yankee fan I have nothing against most Red Sox fans. I cant even imagine how it feels for you guys to win 2 in your lifetime after not winning for so long. Hell the Yanks haven't won for 7 years and I cant stand that fact So Good Luck to the Red Sox for winning but we're getting it back in 08 :P

  7. Money Doesn't Count for Much in Baseball

Interesting analysis in this article . http://biz.yahoo.com/ts/071026/10386140.html?.v=3&.pf=family-home Consider this. Henry's investment company John W. Henry & Co., whose fortunes peaked shortly after the last Series win, has all but collapsed. The story has already been well told -- here and elsewhere. But from the end of October 2004, Henry's main investment fund has lost 29% of its value while Wall Street's Standard & Poor's 500 index has gained 42%. No wonder clients have...

  8. Indians greeted by huge crowd at airport....NOT

One lone fan was at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport at about 4 a.m. to greet the team. Barb Kovalski was cheering loudly in support of their season. She wanted them to know this team was loved and that she represented all the fans who couldn't stay up. "I couldn't be more proud of our Indians," Kovalski said. http://www.newsnet5.com/sports/14391790/detail.html

  9. The Red Sox--the Darlings of the New Century?

In tonight's NY Times, Tyler Kepner wrote in reference to Curt Schilling: He will try to give the Red Sox, the darlings of the new century, yet another victory in the World Series. I can't believe I'm reading that sentence in the NY Times.

  10. Red Sox Coverage (Local)

Why is the New York market treating the Red Sox like a local team? I understand it's the World Series but enough already. M&MD been talking a ton of Red Sox and the 20/20 updates have pressers from Francona/Schilling. New York is the only market with a bias against its own teams.

  12. Torre Asked to Join Buck and McCarver

From the NY Times: Joe Torre had a chance to reach the 2007 World Series, after all. On Friday, the day after Torre turned down the Yankees’ offer to manage for another season, Fox called his agent to see if Torre would be interested in joining Joe Buck and Tim McCarver in the broadcast booth for the World Series. “Joe was flattered to be asked but respectfully declined because he has made some family commitments,” Dan Bell, Fox Sports’s vice president for communications, said in an e-mail...

And he lives close to Safeco Field. "I'm not actively looking for a job, but I would welcome an opportunity to be their pitching coach," Mel Stottlemyre said. "It would be an easy transition for me to get back into the game." The...

  16. Is George Mitchell independent enough?

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but I just read about how Mitchell is a director of the Red Sox, and the chairman of Walt Disney - who owns ESPN. How has this been allowed to happen? What's to stop Mitchell from from calling out 10 Yankees and 2 Sox players? How can MLB think he's going to be totally impartial when his report could very well spell doom for ESPN (owned by Disney)? This is another instance of Bud Selig knowing nothing about running a sport. ...

  17. Millar throwing out first pitch in ALCS

Again, this might have been posted elsewhere, but probably in the thread which shall not be named so I don't know. How do you Oriole fans feel about this? Clearly this guy never left Boston and would much rather be there then Baltimore. OK maybe that's not so much of a stretch to believe. However, I think it's low balling your own team, a division rival no less, to go and root for and cheer lead for another team. That was the happiest he's looked since 2004. What are the odds he has...

I probably won't be watching the games this weekend--I need to have a life again--but I'm rooting for the Indians to win this thing, even though they did beat our team. Who are you rooting for to win?

  20. ALCS Game 7 a big winner for FOX

The numbers from Boston are unheard of in the cable universe of today FOX just killed the NFL game Late-ending NFL coverage and the post-game show "The OT" averaged 10.8/18 for FOX at 7 p.m. CBS earned a 7.5/13 with "60 Minutes." ABC came in third with "America's Funniest Home Videos," 5.2/9. "Football Night in America" put NBC in fourth, while The CW went with "CW Now" and an "Aliens in America" repeat. FOX stayed on top at 8 p.m., getting an 11.1/17 from Game 7 of the ALCS between the...
