Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. Fielding Bible Rankings

http://www.fieldingbible.com has their 2007 rankings out. You can't get a complete list without buying the book, but you can see the top 10 and bottom 5 at each position by checking out the website. Some interesting rankings: Of note for Yankees and Red Sox fans... Red Sox - 1st - Youks rated 4th best in the majors at +10 2nd - Dustin Pedroia not in the top 10, rated at least 10 points behind Robinson Cano SS - Julio Lugo not in the top 10 (no surprise), not in the bottom 5...

  3. Phillies Approach 10,000th Defeat

Most in pro sports! Congrats to Philly on this fine accomplishment! : http://celebrate10000.com/home.asp http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/12/sports/baseball/12phillies.html?_r=1&ref=sports&oref=slogin "...no team has ever stunk so often as the Phillies, who, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, have lost more games than any professional franchise in any sport. Through Monday’s 3-0 victory against the Chicago White Sox, the Phillies were 14 losses from a particular threshold of...

  5. Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens make A-Rod an offer (Steinbrenner comments)

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-a-rod-mudhens&prov=ap&type=lgns That prompted Hank Steinbrenner, son of the Yankees owner, to tell the New York Times: "Does he want to go into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee, or a Toledo Mud Hen?" With that comment, does it mean Hank still wants A-Rod or is he mocking?

  6. Poll: Arod Discussion [Merged]

I didnt see an open thread about this Inside the Lines, so I figured let me put one up. It seems everyone think A-Rod will be up for auction and the contenders for him are the Red Sox, the Mets, Angels, Dodgers, Cubs and other minor contenders aside from the Yankees. I think most of that speculation is crap. Even with other teams having more payroll flexibility, they still don't have 30 million+ per year to tie up in one player. Lets knock these guys out one by one, shall we? Lets...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3081180 Interesting. I've seen pictures of the LA Coliseum in a baseball setup...it's interesting to say the least.

Is he really this good? This season: .343/.395/.574, .969 OPS, 21 HR, 61 RBI, 37 SB http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2976815 I know he still has to work on his D, but is he really this good and at the age of 23. How much better can he get?

  12. 2008 MLB Schedule Makers

What is up with these guys? Did they not learn from this year? The Indians, whose 4-game home-opening series was snowed out in April this year, opens the season at home on March 31 against the White Sox. What are the odds of that series being played? I'm betting we'll still have snow on the ground (not to mention the cold)...The Indians haven't started a season at home in more than 5 years, basically due to weather...These guys are freakin' geniuses. By the way, I'm loving the Indians...

  14. The Official "GO ROX!" Thread

That's right, I am picking the Rockies. Why? They have the makeup of a great well built team. A fighting cinderella story that makes me have hope that there is someone out there who can take out Boston. I pick the Rox. I can't help but like guys who are young and play the game right... Holliday, Tulowitzki, Hawpe... and of course the greybeard of the team Helton. Bless you boys...

  16. Congrats Red Sox on the 2007 World Series

They won it and even though it sucks as a Yankee fan I have nothing against most Red Sox fans. I cant even imagine how it feels for you guys to win 2 in your lifetime after not winning for so long. Hell the Yanks haven't won for 7 years and I cant stand that fact So Good Luck to the Red Sox for winning but we're getting it back in 08 :P

  18. Money Doesn't Count for Much in Baseball

Interesting analysis in this article . http://biz.yahoo.com/ts/071026/10386140.html?.v=3&.pf=family-home Consider this. Henry's investment company John W. Henry & Co., whose fortunes peaked shortly after the last Series win, has all but collapsed. The story has already been well told -- here and elsewhere. But from the end of October 2004, Henry's main investment fund has lost 29% of its value while Wall Street's Standard & Poor's 500 index has gained 42%. No wonder clients have...

  19. Indians greeted by huge crowd at airport....NOT

One lone fan was at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport at about 4 a.m. to greet the team. Barb Kovalski was cheering loudly in support of their season. She wanted them to know this team was loved and that she represented all the fans who couldn't stay up. "I couldn't be more proud of our Indians," Kovalski said. http://www.newsnet5.com/sports/14391790/detail.html

  20. The Red Sox--the Darlings of the New Century?

In tonight's NY Times, Tyler Kepner wrote in reference to Curt Schilling: He will try to give the Red Sox, the darlings of the new century, yet another victory in the World Series. I can't believe I'm reading that sentence in the NY Times.
