  2. Jim Rice rips Jeter, A-Rod, Manny during speech to Little Leaguers

Speaking to players before the start of the Little League World Series, the new baseball Hall of Famer said today’s major-leaguers are too focused on individual goals and getting big contracts. “You see a Manny Ramirez, you see an A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez), you see (Derek) Jeter ... Guys that I played against and with, these guys you’re talking about cannot compare,” Rice said to Little Leaguers gathered in the cafeteria. We didn’t have the baggy uniforms. We didn’t have the dreadlocks,”...

  3. 102 MPH Throwing Lefty (21 years old) Aroldis Chapman

Aroldis Chapman is a Cuban defector he is just 21 (with passport to prove it) Left handed pitcher with a fastball that has hit 100-102mph He will be a free agent at some point and MLB teams will be allowed to sign him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aroldis_Chapman http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2009/08/09/all-about-aroldis/ http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4381376

  4. Tyler Clippard this year

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=28694 He has done well this year....glad to see it. I liked him as a Yankee and he has performed better than I thought he was capable of.

  6. Marty Foster.......

For anyone who missed today's Yankees/Orioles game, Marty Foster (the home plate umpire) ejected A-Rod and Girardi after A-Rod was called out on strikes with two outs and the bases loaded. And, of course, the stories that we heard from A-Rod and Foster were very conflicting. Here's the story if you'd like to read it on yankees.com http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090913&content_id=6935634&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy Here's my problem with the situation. I know...

  7. MVP and Cy Young Awards

We've come to the end of the regular season. There are about two weeks more of regular season ball to be played, but some of the big awards have already been given away. This thread will contain discussion about all the major awards, not just one specifically (or one player's candidacy, specifically). Here are my Award winners. First I'll list who I think should win, then I'll list who I think the voters will elect. AL ROY: My choice: Andrew Bailey, OAK Writer's choice: Gordon Beckham,...

  8. The future of the Rays

Well, they are not officially dead yet, but given the fact that Tampa Bay has only about a 5% chance of making the playoffs according to Baseball Prospectus, I think it is safe to say the defending AL Champs are done for the year. I remember after last year's success a lot of fans and media thought the Rays were going to be a force for years to come. However, I don't know about anyone else but I am not nearly as high on this team as many others. I am not saying they are going to fall...

  9. Ichiro and 3000 MLB hits

Ichiro currently has 1989 hits in the MLB, accumulated over 9-injury free seasons. He is 35 years old. The fewest games he has played in a season is 157, twice. While people like to note that he has already obtained over 3000 hits in his career (combined between Japan the U.S.), does he have a chance at 3000 hits in the MLB? One might not think so, given his age, but it's not like we see any sign of decline right now...; He currently sports a .359 BA. He's clearly in excellent shape. ...

  11. Tim McCarver Sings!

Ooooohhhh, first the Beatles re-mastered gets released, now this! My ears and nipples explode in delight! :rockin: http://soxblog.projo.com/2009/09/tim-mccarver-ca.html Fox Sports baseball analyst Tim McCarver is a guy who takes a lot of heat -- particularly here in Boston, where many people seem to think he has an anti-Red Sox agenda. While I've never felt that way, I believe that I already get to hear McCarver quite enough, thank you, during his regularly scheduled baseball...

  12. Giants / Rockies race

I'm a little surprised at the absence of a wildcard race thread. The NL wild card could get real interesting starting tonight. I'm hoping the MLB channel will have this game in its entirety. As a side note, what a treat to hear Vin Sculley this past Saturday doing the Dodger /Giant game. He is still, by far, the best in the business. IMO no one comes close.

  13. 2010 interleague schedule -- enough!!

Being somewhat of a baseball purist, I barely tolerated interleague play when it started in 1997 -- to the extent that the schedule was the same for each team in the division (i.e., each AL East team played each NL east team 3 times). At least, with a somewhat identical schedule, you produced a true divisonal champion. Then, with the rotation of interleague divisional play (i.e., AL East plays NL West), the forcing of natural rivalries playing 6 times regardless of rotation schedule of...

  16. Miguel Tejada Cheating thread...........

Wait, let me get this straight. First, Tejada cheats by using PEDs. Then he lies about it to Congress. Somewhere in the middle of all that, we find out he lied about his age, too. Then last month, an allegation drops that he helped his fellow Dominican players on other MLB teams by tipping his own pitchers' pitches to the opposition when he was with the A's. Now this:

  20. Time for Jays to Petition for a move out of AL East?

60-75 entering today's game. 18-39 versus AL East opponents 42-36 against everyone else. At the very least, 6 games over .500 would give them a legitimate chance at the NL wildcard and an outside shot at the AL wildcard. Hard to believe how awful they've been versus their division.
