Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. The Wave

I went to Shea yesterday for the first time ever. Not a bad ball park. However, when I was there I had a question. The wave. How long has the wave been happening? And why would someone want to start the wave when the Houston Astros or a visiting team is up to bat? Wouldn't that be pumping up that team? Shouldn't that start when the home team is up?

  2. I'm a Baseball Kid

Editor's note: Will Jauss, the 11-year-old son of Los Angeles Dodgers coach Dave Jauss, lives every kid's dream: He gets to hang out with a Major League baseball team all summer. Will shared some of his experiences with Yahoo! Sports. Email Will at willjauss@yahoo.com. Normal kids see their dad every night when he comes home from work. Normal kids spend their summers at camp, the beach or staying home with their families. I spend my summer in Los Angeles, 3,000 miles from our home in Boston,...

  3. Looks like McGwire won't make it in

At first thought I don't think he should get in, especially on the first try, but this article really made me think more. Simmons can be good when he tries. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/070103

  5. Philles Closer Brett Myers Gets Into Scuffle with Reporter

This happened after Myers gave up back-to-back HRs to blow the game against the Padres in Philly last night. Myers said something about the HRs "looking like pop-ups off the bat", and that is was a "good pitch"...which a reporter questioned...then chaos insued: http://podcast.kyw1060.com/kyw/627822.mp3 This is funny, because I always thought Brett Myers would only fight with women. Anger management, anyone?

  9. What is so special about the Cleveland Indians?

I find myself scratching my head a bit at all of the hype that the Indians are receiving. Seems like virtually every preseason power ranking that I have seen has them as one of the top few teams in baseball. It appears that they are, yet again, the sexy pick this upcoming season. (Haven't they been it for like the past three years now?) Anyway, I don't expect them to be poor, but I don't see them nearly as good as other people do. Yes, they have some very good offensive players in Sizemore...

  14. "Boston fans - most annoying" says Jim Caple

I'm as shocked as you all. The most vocal and blatent Yankee hater at ESPN has turned the corner and decalred "Red Sox Nation" as the most obnoxious and annoying fan base in the country. Sure he still gets his digs in on the Yankees in this article, but the main point of it is that Sox fans, especially all the new ones since 2004 are annoying and rude...something we can all attest to after seeing any game in Baltimore, Tampa, or sadly NY recently. ...

For those not familiar with the names, Phil Garner is the manager of the Houston Astros and Tim Purpura is the general manager. Both were fired today. No link, it's still a developing story. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070827&content_id=2173196&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

  19. Dude gets shot down proposing at Astros game,

You know things are wrong in Astro-land when even a wedding proposal can't go off smoothly. During Monday night's 7-0 loss to the Nationals at Minute Maid Park, a fan failed in his public attempt at asking his girlfriend to marry him, the Houston Chronicle reported on its Web site. With the couple on display on the stadium's jumbotron, the male fan got down on one knee to present the ring. The woman, wearing a replica Astros jersey, appeared to dump a bag of popcorn on the man before...

  20. The Official JDPNYY Bandwagon against the White Sox Thread

As many of you know, the nearly famous JDPNYY has stated all season that the White Sox would not win the AL Central Division. You know this because JDPNYY has been harping on this forever. Even when the lead was 15 games, JDPNYY did not waver. Many thought JDPNYY was nuts, some thought he was joking, but it was serious. JDPNYY has felt all year that the White Sox have been getting by on pitching that was playing way over their heads. JDPNYY knew this could not last all year. So without...
