Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. Why Is The Media So In Love With This Years Tigers ??

isnt it obvious they were a complete fluke last season ?? their lineup is grossly overated. it wasnt even good last year. everyone goes nuts because guys like thames, monroe and inge hit 20 homeruns but their obp's were all terrible. and these were supposedly career years from these guys and they werent even that good. and just adding sheffield doesnt make them this juggernaut. hes not bonds circa 00-04. plus kenny rogers will not have another very good season. and todd jones wont either....

  2. Dayn Perry says Red Sox have best organization

Another Bosox fan and it is not ESPN - Dayn Perry (I don't like even typing his name) says Boston has the best organization - http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7215532 - first the research on road attendance does not take into account that Boston plays at Yankee Stadium which has more fan capacity than Fenway and he ignores the prospects the Yanks have brought up. All Yankee fans should vote on the site and correct the bias in favor of the Red sox votes.

  4. Congratulations Jim Thome! 500th Homerun.

Congratulations to a class act. He did it in walkoff fashion as well. I hope he gets the ball back.

  7. 21-year old forced to sell #756 ball?

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-bonds-756ball&prov=ap&type=lgns "The 21-year-old New York man said Tuesday he had no choice but to sell the ball -- several people told him he would be taxed on the valuable souvenir if he holds onto it. ' This makes absolutely zero sense to me. How can the government legally tax you on something that was a souvenir? Something he CAUGHT, not bought, and it wasn't gifted to him (meaning inherited...estate tax). I mean, heck, I've got three foul...

  8. Nationals @ Marlins attendance

I don't think I've seen this few people at YS after the gates have just opened for BP. This picture was taken during the game. I don't know what the actual attendance was. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/photos?photoId=1682644&gameId=270912128

  9. The Death of Baseball?

Remember a couple years ago, when it seemed all the media and sportswriters were all but writing baseball's obituary? Football is America's #1 sport and always will be, they said. Even NASCAR has the chance to top boring old baseball. I may be wrong, but it seems like the sport has only gained popularity over the last couple years. With different teams winning the WS, a lot of teams in the wild-card races, and in increase in parity, it seems like fans are really enjoying baseball now. Last...

  10. Carlos Pena can flat out HIT!

Just hit his 39th home run on a 3-run shot to give the D-rays an 8-1 lead over the bosox. Looked like a change up on the outer half about knee high. WOW! To dead center in Fenway. Still 29, he looks like a late bloomer. Man, could you have imagined if he had shown more last year and we had kept him? He's darn good on defense also.

  11. Mike Hargrove takes over his former semi-pro team in Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- More than two months after abruptly stepping down as manager of the Seattle Mariners, Mike Hargrove has decided to take over the semi-pro summer team in southwest Kansas he played for more than 30 years ago. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AnLe_JIGdhBYU7x9JNN5dP0RvLYF?slug=ap-hargrove-newjob&prov=ap&type=lgns I don't think that this should go in the Mariners thread because he's no longer the manager of the Mariners but this really makes me mad and annoyed...

  13. Is Dice-K the next Hideki Irabu?

Hideki Irabu's first full season 13-9 4.06 ERA 173 Innings Dice-K's first season so far 14-12 4.44 ERA 184 Innings Just an interesting stat comparison I saw posted on another site. I was on the "Get Daisuke" bandwagon all offseason, but looking at these #'s, we may have dodged a huge bullet by not getting him. What do you guys think?

Zito spent the day visiting patients at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., as part of the kickoff for his Strikeouts For Troops program, which will provide funds to assist with family travel and housing expenses...

  15. Home Field Advantage?

I've heard this on M & MD and I just watched them talk about it on ESPN 1st and 10 with Skip Clueless. I've NEVER seen this before or heard of it before those two instances. Does the team with the best record in the league get to choose who they play now? If so when was this rule instituted...I hadn't heard of this before the season and would like to know if this is just speculation or if MLB has actually put this into effect.

  18. McGwire Sets Another New Record!

Mark McGwire set another major league record yesterday by hitting 20 homeruns faster than anyone in MLB history. He hit 20 in 35 games breaking the previous record held by none other than Mickey Mantle. Mick did it in 41 games. The amazing thing about Mac's feat is that he was out a whole bunch of games with his back problem. The guy is phenominal. Also what it tells me is what a terrific athlete Mickey Mantle was. I you think about player conditioning today vs in Mick's day Mickey...

  19. The Wave

I went to Shea yesterday for the first time ever. Not a bad ball park. However, when I was there I had a question. The wave. How long has the wave been happening? And why would someone want to start the wave when the Houston Astros or a visiting team is up to bat? Wouldn't that be pumping up that team? Shouldn't that start when the home team is up?
