Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. MLB hires Big Brother to monitor video use

Somehow this will wind up costing us the fans more money I fear NEW YORK, October 2, 2007 – Major League Baseball (MLB) has reached agreement with Teletrax, the global broadcast intelligence company, to test the Teletrax™ service by digitally watermarking its content and evaluating the broadcast television usage of all of its upcoming postseason games. Teletrax is a subsidiary of Medialink Worldwide Incorporated (Nasdaq: MDLK). http://www.teletrax.tv/index.php/News/Teletrax/#63

  3. Poll: Toughest NL Team to match up with in WS?

Sorry if this has been brought up already... wondering if there's a National League team that would be potential trouble for the American League winner? I can't think of a team that can make an opponent shake in fear like the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, Detroit, Indians can do to their opponents. Mets? Cubs? Dbacks? Phillies have been tough lately but their bullpen appears to stink Mets bullpen stinks also and have been limping lately Dbacks have been losing a lot Cubs? Brewers? ...

  5. Re: Red Sox thread (continued)

Please put all Red Sox-related posts within this thread. Please note, there is to be ABSOLUTELY NO in-game commentary about Red Sox games in this thread, or anywhere on this site for that matter. There are plenty of Red Sox forums out there for that. People who are found to be discussing a live game or using this thread as a "Red Sox Gamethread" will be suspended for at least 5 days. Subsequent instances will result in the user being permanently banned. Users are urged to report this...

  6. Your ML 2007 Report Cards

A few months ago, I had a progress report thread that asked most of the same questions below. I'll be interesting to see how things have changed since the All-Star Break, and it's clear they have. Fill out your ballots! 7. Peavy a lock for the NL Cy Young?

Leads in the NL in ERA (2.43), Wins (16) and Ks (210) - the trifecta for voters if you will. If not Peavy, who? Webb?

  8. The 2007 FOX Postseason Thread™

In anticipation of the LCS and the World Series afterwards... Let's get this kicked off properly (from firejoemorgan.com - thanks 26 and counting): Zero > One Several of you sent in this bizarro-world pearl of wisdom from my close friend Tim McCarver during today's Fox broadcast: "We had our friends at Stats, Inc. check and see whether more multi-run innings came with a lead off homer or a lead off walk. You would think that a lead off walk would lead to more big innings than a...

  9. The National League - What the hell is going on over there?

So we are at baseball's final weekend for the regular season. Not one team has clinched a playoff spot. 7 teams are still in play for 4 spots. One team has almost fully collapsed. One team would have collapsed if the other team was intelligent. And another team has suddenly won 11 games in a row. A possible 5 way tie after Sunday? Huh? What is all this? I cannot figure it out the NL nor handicap this finish. At this rate, the playoffs might be delayed by a week. Damn you NL. Can...

  10. The 2007 Fantasy Baseball Discussion Thread

Well, soon enough we'll all be agonizing over who to start/bench and add/drop. I already have to start thinking about a draft next month so here is this year's thread. I have to decide on my 5 keepers soon. It's a simple keeper league, no worries about where the keepers were drafted, no limit on years kept, etc. Here are the only 8 from my team that would even be considered ( <table style="width: 750px; margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;" id="statTable0" class="teamtable" border="0"...

  11. 2007 MLB Predictions

I looked around but haven't located a thread for prediciting how the 2007 season will turn out and with Opening Day less than two weeks away, I thought I'd start one. I'll keep mine short and simple: American League East 1.) New York Yankees 2.) Boston Red Sox (WC) 3.) Toronto Blue Jays 4.) Baltimore Orioles 5.) Tampa Bay Devil Rays

  12. AL CY Young Discussion

So, as the final month gets underway, I was thinking about the AL MVP but since A-rod has all but wrapped that up, I think the more interesting race and discussion revolves around the AL CY Young Award. There seems to be 5 Candidates as indicated in the poll. I am not a stats Guru by any means (I understand WHIP, that's as far as it goes) but who does everyone think will wind up winning the award? W-L Lackey Sabathia Wang Beckett Escobar

  14. "We’ve got so much talent I think sometimes we get bored.” - C. Delgado

Strange article since they would talk in very different tones after today. Some quotes below: Published: September 25, 2007 This article was published in the October 1, 2007, edition of The New York Observer. Randolph insisted his team is in playoff mode with a week to go, but by the accounts of several players, a pall of indifference settled on the clubhouse. First baseman Carlos Delgado told WFAN, “I think at times we can get a little careless. We’ve got so much talent I think...

  16. AL vs NL

If anyone knows, the tie breaker rules appear to be different in AL vs NL IE: If the sawx&Yanks were tied at end of season(like 2005)with identical records(for 1st place) head to head play would decide the winner..But in the NL IF the mets&phils HAD tied there would be a 1 gasme playoff? do I have this right & If I do why the descrepency?

  19. Red Sox "Nation" Presidential Election

I stumbled upon this today- Have you guys heard of this? Is this a joke? They actually had a debate with Tim Russert while Larry Luchino and Tom Werner showed up to listen. Huh? Does this seem weird to anyone? They actually charge $14.95 to become a card-carrying member of Red Sox "Nation." How self-absorbed is that? And where, exactly, is Red Sox "Nation?" Massachussetts? I live in Nebraska and people refer to the fanbase as "Husker Nation," which always makes me wonder, "where does...
