Forum: Around The Minors

Who's coming up? Who's going down? What's happening with the Yankees Minor League clubs?

  1. national cross-checkers hired

The Yankees hired Donny Rowland and Kendall Carter as national cross-checkers this month, adding two veteran baseball men to the organization. Does anyone know what kind of scouts they are? Very important for our future drafts picks. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/story/492452p-414823c.html

  5. Philip Hughes #4 Prospect!

SportsIllustrated.com just recently posted the top 75 prospects in all minor league baseball. Our boy just got the #4 spot! I have been reading the updates for the past few days and I knew he would be in the top 15. I don't know about you guys, but I am really excited about what Hughes has to offer. I have watched video on him, heard the talk about him, and I can't wait to see him pitch in a Yankee uniform. Any thoughts on Hughes, or the type of season he will have? (whether he will be...

  6. PECOTA on our prospects

i was wondering if anyone wanted to have a discussion about the pecota projections for our prospects: ill throw a couple of suprises out there now Hughes- a 3.87 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP- could he be our best starting pitcher next year? PECOTA thinks so Betances- His list of comparables is very favorable- the top 4 being: Matt Cain, Francisco Liriano, K-Rod, and Joel Zumaya. his projection should be taken with a grain of salt due to the SSS Alberto Gonzalez- has a projected .280/.325/.388...

  8. Why the Clippard hate?

This is the official "I can't understand the hate for Tyler Clippard" thread. Many threads on this board, such as the Royal Flush thread, don't even include Clippard in the royal flush as if he's some marginal pitching prospect. That shouldn't be the case. First of all, let's look at his stats. Pitching Statistics <TABLE cellSpacing=0 width="100%" celpadding="1"><TBODY><TR class=header_bar><TD>Year</TD><TD>Team</TD><TD>Lg</TD><TD title="Age is calculated as of June 30 of a season"...

  9. BA's 31st Team: Corona and Claggett

Corona: Claggett: If players like these don't make a top 30, you know you're doing something right. Claggett's top 2 comps from PECOTA are Scot Shields and Matt Guerrier. That would be wonderful :) The book is in the mail :)

  10. How come nobody is talking about Angel Reyes?

Im I missing something?, he throws 93-95 mph with electric movement, plus curveball, a rapidly improving changeup that may turn into a plus pitch next year, good command, put up some great stats with GCL and the SI Yankees last year and.... he throws left handed!!!!, yet nobody is talking about him, we donīt see him in the famous "top prospects list" by BA or minorleagueball.com, what it is? his small frame? his durability concerns? what?... is our system that deep? or Im I the only one...

  11. Humberto Sanchez Thread

Nice article about Sanchez in the Daily News today. Seems like a good kid and like his willingness to be flexible to what the Yankees need him to do. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/story/487497p-410486c.html The 23-year-old said he hopes to secure a spot on the big-league roster this season, though Yankees GM Brian Cashman has said Sanchez will likely open the season with Triple-A Scranton. Sanchez said that he's fully recovered from a right-elbow injury that sidelined him...

  12. BYE BYE D&F......(New CBA rule)

If this is out there Please remove but I haven't seen it posted yet but the New CBA states all Draft selections must be signed by August 15 meaning the end of the Draft And Follow era has come.It also states that if a top pick isn't signed, the team will have the opition of another 1st round pick in the next years draft giving teams more of an option as far a signing a HS player. It also has added an extra year to a teams signed player before he's eligible for the Rule 5 draft. This is from BA's...

  13. Are there any studies out there that tries to VALUE

a minor league pitcher? Hughes 2.50, have you seen anything? Take someone like Hughes if you were to trade him for cash, what would it be? $10 mil? $20 mil? Obviously, you can't trade people for cash. But I'm trying to establish a valuation theory. Has anybody seen any studies out there? The article that stated that the Yankees offered another $4 mil for Micah Owings started me thinking. $4 mil, for somebody who you could stick into a starting rotation now seems pretty cheap. ...

  14. Kyle Larsen released ?

As a guy who goes to quite a few SI games this came as a shock. Kyle had a better year in 05 but has good power. I guess they say one thing you can't over come is bat speed.:( http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minors/news/263079.html

  16. Concerned with Tabata's injury issues

The wrist injury just doesn't seem to go away. Even after Tabata sat out for months it still flared back up in a few games. I am very concerned that this may ruin a great prospect and potentially a great star. Hopefully before next season the Yanks will figure out the remedy for this, which could be surgery.

  17. Are some Yankee young pitchers ready to blossom?

With the acquisition of young pitchers through the RJ, Wright and <st1>Sheffield</st1> trade(plus the many exciting prospects in the minors), I believe that the 2007 season and beyond look very bright as far as upgrading our pitching staff (without having to acquire expensive contracts). I also believe that the Yankees boast one of the best pitching prospects in the minors. The following stats are before December 2006. So, if anyone has winter league stats, please post them: (through<st1>...

  18. My Top 30 Prospects

I can't say for sure that I would pick each player over the one directly beneath them, but i certainly put a lot of thought into the way they are ordered. If you have any questions as to how/why i ranked certain guys a certain way feel free to ask :) 01. RHP Philip Hughes 02. RF Jose Tabata 03. RHP Humberto Sanchez (taking a chance on his ability to stay healthy, he's got easy #1-2 stuff 04. RHP Joba Chamberlain 05. RHP Dellin Betances 06. RHP Tyler Clippard 07. RHP Jeff Marquez...

  19. John Sickels Top 50 hitting/pitching prospects

I don't know if anyone here reads John Sickels prospect site, www.minorleagueball.com but he just emailed out his top 50 hitting and top 50 pitching prospects for 2006. It only goes out to people who ordered his book so I don't want to repost the list, but two Yankees made the list. Jose Taba came in at #40 of hitting prospects. Phil Hughes came in at #26 of pitching prospects. I was disapointed that Duncan didn't make the list, but if he carries his AFL performance to AA or AAA...
