Forum: Around The Minors

Who's coming up? Who's going down? What's happening with the Yankees Minor League clubs?

  1. Daniel McCutchen

So far Daniel McCutchen is pitching great. An era of 1.80 and a WHIP below 1.00. So what is this guy's ceiling?

  3. Like father, like son

I went to the Trenton @ New Britain game today. As in the Bronx, the final was 5-0 (Trenton). As in the Bronx, there was a bench clearing brawl. In the Trenton brawl, and I'll have to wait until newspaper reports explain what precipitated it, Jason Brown , Trenton backup catcher charged the mound after being buzzed, and actually scored a one punch knockout. Being in the ballpark is often the worst place to get the real scoop, especially minor league parks. As a bonus here is a picture of...

  7. Can we give S. Duncan a shot at the show?

The way both of our 1st baseman are playing, I would love to see Shelly get a shot. His bother had so so numbers in the minor but he is playing well in St Louis. I like to see Shelly get a shot.

  8. Draft Game Thread

I was thinking that maybe we could make a Game Thread for the draft much in the same way that they have game threads for normal games. We can give our insights and reactions to the draft as it is happening I'll go first, BA is reporting that Drew might not fall that far and he might go to the Orioles at #8 :(

  9. What are our chances in landing Mitch Canham in the draft?

The catching prospect from Oregon State I've heard great stuff about his bat but I'm not sure if anyone else has a good scouting report on his Keith Law has him as the 25th best 2007 Draft Prospect http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/columns/story?columnist=law_keith&id=2848693&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fmlb%2finsider%2fcolumns%2fstory%3fcolumnist%3dlaw_keith%26id%3d2848693

  10. Keith Law talking about the Seton Hall Prep pitchers

It's an insider article so I can't post the whole thing, but these two pitchers definitely intrigued me as possible targets for the Yanks. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=law_keith Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.) has a tremendous one-two punch of right-handed pitchers in seniors Rick Porcello and Evan Danieli. Porcello is probably the top prep pitcher in this draft, but he could slip quite a bit due to his perceived bonus demands; he's a Scott Boras client and has a...

  11. Kevin Whelan Feature

None of this is online yet, and the article will officially come out Thursday. Figured everyone would like a preview. Needs a few edits here and there, but here y'all go... Whelan Is Dealin' In Trenton by Mike Ashmore Hunterdon County Democrat - April 26, 2007 The day before Trenton Thunder reliever Kevin Whelan's wedding, the Detroit Tigers decided to send him an early gift. "They called me to tell me I'd been traded," Whelan said. "It was a complete shock, I wasn't expecting...

  12. Estee Harris resurfaces

He's signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League, who promptly assigned him to the Road Warriors. The Road Warriors are the league's traveling team, and are historically one of the worst teams in all of professional baseball. Harris never made it to Trenton, so I know very little about him. What's his deal?

  13. Poll: How many more starts before Hughes is called up?

Since our rotation is in disarray and our roation fillers don't seem to be going deep into games, (with some exceptions) it almost seems enevitable that Hughes will be called up in the future and he will begin his career.

  14. Is Wright ready for the show

It's a big jump and when Henn was called up from double A he had great numbers in double A and got blown away when he showed up? Is Chase ready? "Henn was a major disappointment, going 0-3 with an 11.12 ERA in three starts before working his way back as a reliever this spring.: http://www.nj.com/thunder/times/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/117652360319350.xml&coll=5

  16. Observations about Hughes after seeing him pitch

Below is an article from Baseball America which comments about Hughes and his start to the new season
http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=184]I was fortunate to be at the game, in which both his manager and pitching coach described it as his best pitching performance

I saw both Tuesday's Hughes performance, and, the Wed. game. 17. Breakout Players

I don't think I did this last year, but I have in years past. So who is gonna break out and scream PROSPECT at us this year? Alan Horne? Battle? Will Marcos turn into the elite prospect we thought he was a few years ago? What about McAllister, I know a lot of us are high on him, but will he take off now? Will Eric Abreu get his velocity back? Will Eric Duncan put it together? What about Nunez? Will he bounce back? What about some of the other pitchers with great arms who've...
