Forum: Around The Minors

Who's coming up? Who's going down? What's happening with the Yankees Minor League clubs?

  1. 2007 Roster Projections

The discussion regarding where Betances would be got me going and this is what i've drawn up tentatively. There is really more pitching that there are roster spots throughout the organization so I need to go through and look at the status of contracts to see who might not be back. Anyhow, round 1. <table x:str="" style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 92pt;" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="122"><col style="width: 92pt;" width="122"> <tbody><tr style="height:...

  3. Yanks do well in new Top 100 Prospects List

Baseball Prospectus has a number of Yankees (mostly pitchers, thank God!) in its newest Top 100 list: 2. Philip Hughes, RHP, 21 22. Jose Tabata, OF, 18 56. Joba Chamberlain, RHP, 21 65. Humberto Sanchez, RHP, 24 92. Dellin Betances, RHP, 19 and on their 10 that almost made the cut list was:

  4. Off-Season All Purpose Prospect Report Thread

The offseason is here, but that doesn't mean that prospect talk has to end. There's the instructional leagues, the AFL, the winter leagues (where Tabata will play) and then the off-season for baseball where prospects might be lost or acquired and the Rule 4 draft. Also, that damn BA popup was annoying the heck out of me.

  6. Which prospects are likely to be dealt or released by Opening Day?

It seems like that the Yankees farm system is deeper than ever, especially in the pitching department. Which player(s) do you think won't be around when the (majority of the) minor league seasons open up in early-April? Matt DeSalvo would be my pick...

  7. BP Ranks The Farm Systems

https://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=5870 I was able to log out and view this, so it's not exclusive material. Considering that, I have no problem pasting the entire list, though I'll only spend time on the descriptions of the Sox and Yanks to start. Obviously, it's worth talking about all the systems, but I figured our two teams would be the ones drawing the most interest here: 1. Tampa Bay 2. Colorado 3. LA Angels 4. NY Yankees 5. LA Dodgers 6. Arizona

  9. A "Minor" Change

Major League Baseball recently passed a new rule making the roster limits at the Double-A level 24 players throughout the entire season instead of the old rules where the roster limits shifted from 24 players to 23 players and then back to 24 players. <br> <br> Under the previous roster rules, Double-A teams began the season with 24 players and dropped to 23 players after 30 days. Rosters would again expand to 24 players for the final 30 days off the regular season. <br> <br> So basically,...

  10. BA ranks Yankee Farm System #7!

This is the listing which doesn't take into account the acquisition of Arizona's #10 and #13 prospects and Igawa's signing after the book was sent to the printers so perhaps this means the Yankees moved up another notch or so. Tampa Bay #1 Colorado #2 Arizona #3 LA Angels #4 Milwaukee #5 LA Dodgers #6 NY Yankees #7 Minnesota #8

  13. Matt DeSalvo designated for assignment

Looks like the days of the word "prospect" following the name Matt DeSalvo are over. Following the signing of Miguel Cairo, the Yankees designated DeSalvo for assignment. Thoughts on his fate?

  14. Luis Sojo to manage Tampa Yankees

http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070130&content_id=1790507&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy I like this move. "Minor matters: Luis Sojo will manage the Tampa Yankees of the Florida State League this year, Newman said. Former infielder Jody Reed will pilot the Yankees' Gulf Coast League entry." If he was the manager last year as some of you have said, then I don't see why they'd make an announcement that he'd be the '07 manager?

  15. Our No.1 catching prospect

I say Jared Greenwood. He is only 22 years old, LH and has power. In FSL, he is hitting .279/.373/.548 with 13 HR in 166AB. The power is impressive and his plate discipline is solid. (BB/SO 26/45) Does anyone know about his defence?

  16. How does Justin Christian fall out of the BA Top 30?

Last year, Justin Christian was ranked 21st in Baseball America's Top 30 Yankee prospects list. Now, he's not on the list at all. He has a strong work ethic (could frequently be found taking extra cuts in the indoor cage), excelled defensively and set a new Trenton franchise record for stolen bases (68) He also hit .276 at the plate last year. Is his power the concern? He only hit six longballs last year, and has never hit more than eight in a season.

  17. The Prospect Lists/Rankings Thread

It is the off-season and there will be lots of prospect lists and rankings coming out in the next few months. Let's use this thread to report them all. I'm going to start out with my own Yankees Top 50. I'm not satisfied with it, so I might tinker on and off. 1. Phil Hughes 2. Jose Tabata 3. Tyler Clippard 4. Eric Duncan

  19. national cross-checkers hired

The Yankees hired Donny Rowland and Kendall Carter as national cross-checkers this month, adding two veteran baseball men to the organization. Does anyone know what kind of scouts they are? Very important for our future drafts picks. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/story/492452p-414823c.html
