Forum: Around The Minors

Who's coming up? Who's going down? What's happening with the Yankees Minor League clubs?

  1. Mixed Scouting Report on 19th Round Pick - Kevin Jordan

    http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/02/28/player-player-game-report-kevin-jordan-of-northside-hs-ga/
The report indicates why Jordan was available in rd 19 wasn't due just to signability issues. I think Jordan is extremely gifted, he just has to show that he is maturing as a player.

  2. 2010 Amateur Draft Day 2

OK guys, hopefully all the bashing of the Yanks first pick is out of the way and out of your systems by now. Lets start speculating about day 2, rounds 2-30, or is it 2-20 today? Anyway, lots of good players still on the board. Lots of speculation that RHP Robbie Rowland is our next target, but lefty Girffin Murphy would be a great pick if he is there too.

  3. Slade Heathcott

Well short season is nearly a month away, and I anticipate Slade Heathcott's season at Staten Island. I'm looking forward to a solid season of development at Staten Island. If he is injury free and plays the full season at Staten Island (about 60 games) I anticipate the 19 year old first round pick to excite Yankees with a solid average (e.g., 280-310), and upwards of high single digit dingers (6-10). Heathcott will probably start the season as the leadoff hitter - I'm excited to see...

  7. May 2010 Minor League Thread

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2010_05_01_swbaaa_noraaa_1 says Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's "Greg Golson bunt grounds out sharply to first baseman Brandon Snyder." It must be rare for a player to bunt sharply. Juan Miranda just hit his fifth home run in the top of the second at Norfolk for the first run of the game.

  8. Stephen Strasburg

What are the odds that he falls in the draft? Boras is demanding 6/50mil for him and that's just unheard of. I also dont buy into his velo readings of sitting at 100 and topping out at 103 with spot on control and great movement.

  9. Great prospects who couldn't cut in the majors.

I wanted to start a thread about great prospects that couldn't live up to expectations in the majors and what people think are the reasons why they couldn't lived up to their expectations that scouts and what scouts overlooked. Some of these guys are still young enough to rebound but so far their major league career has been a disappointment. I've listed a couple that I am curious about. Sean Burroughs (ranked #4 by BA in 2002) Hank Blalock (ranked #3 by BA in 2002) Alex Gordon...

  10. Poll: Who is the Yanks #1 prospect?

I'm going to start a poll to figure out who the top Yankee prospects are. Basically following the Sickels polling style. We'll do #1 today until we get a consensu, then eliminate that player and start a new pool in a seperate poll thread for #2. If you want to add a player to the pool, vote other then put his name in the thread. IF he gets enough mentions, we'll replace the low man on the totem poll. Guys like Hughes/Rameriez are no longer prospects, since they are no longer...

  11. JR Murphy

Nineteen year old, catcher, JR Murphy the Yankees 2nd round pick ($1.25 million bonus) in 2009 has been sent from extended spring training to Charleston in the Sally League. He has started well at 333/467/800, with two doubles and five ribbies in his first four games.
Murphy has an excellent reputation for plate discipline and a high baseball IQ. He has received rave reviews from scouts for his pure hitting. So far he is living up to that reputatation.

From MLB Rumors. 20. Jeremy Baltz

Baltz had a homer in St John's home opener yesterday. I will be doing game recaps for all St. John's home games and hoping to get to the ballpark for some games this year. I am also planning on doing a couple features on a few players on the St. John's Baseball team so check out GothamBaseball.com for when they are up. Also, this season I will be part-time minor league writer, while I won't be the regular beat writer for Staten Island I will be contributing.
