  1. Action Park - Vernon NJ - back in the day

Did anyone else go here? My parents took me a handful of times in the early 90s. It was soooooo un safe. Amazing it was open as long as it was. I mean, they had a pitch black waterslide with a loop in it. They also had an alpine slide that basically was a concrete track down the side of a ski mountain. Just a recipe for disaster on your swimsuit wearing legs. Anyway, there's a short documentary about the place online now. ...

  2. What are you listening to on Audio Book in 2014?

Finished the Dark Tower Five on the way home from work tonight. The snow was light enough that I took a detour to the County Library to pick up the Dark Tower Six. Only 14 hours is this one, I say Thank ye.

  3. Spring Training 2014

As some of you may know, I am a Spring Training Junky. The Yankees have had 16 spring training seasons (since 1996) in Tampa, several of my members and I have been to 11 or 12 of those seasons. We also attended about 18 ST seasons in Ft Lauderdale when the Yankees trained there. This year we have decided to do something different. We are attending the Cactus League season headquartered in Phoenix, AZ. There are 15 teams training in the Phoenix area with ten Stadiums (five of the ten...

  5. Soup kitchen volunteering

I was wondering if anyone here does it/has done it. I haven't done it in a couple of years:o. I have done it at 2 places. The 2nd was very professional. You could have been at any lower end restaurant. Very clean. Good food. The first (in a smaller town) was like eating "outdoors". Very primitive surroundings. Looked dingy (but was clean). The food was decent, but they mixed everything up on the plate into a mess a bit. In both places, 98% of the people being served were very...

  6. HBO's True Detective

Yeah, I haven't seen it yet but some people that have are using words like "phenomenal" when talking about this new series that drops Sunday night. So I don't think it should be relegated to the megathread. I am a big Matthew McConnaughy and Woody Harrelson fan. So I was going to love this show no matter what. For those who haven't heard of it yet, it is an anthology series and the entire thing has been written by one writer and one director (Cary Fukunaga how has directed some great...

  8. House of Cards season 2

I think enough of us watch this show to have it's own thread. And quite honestly it's arguably one of the best shows airing right now. Even if it's only in it's second season it just has that thing, whatever that thing is, that separates it from others. Not sure how to handle this with spoilers. I mean the entire series is up to watch but we'll all be in different places. Could I suggest that we still spoiler it but note which episode we're talking about above so no one gets screwed? I...

  9. The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

Looking for opinions for those who watched the first week. Overall I think he did better than I thought he would. He looked forced in his Late Night show and seems more relaxed here. Too early to tell for sure but I think his humor will sell to the average Tonight Show viewer. I'll watch for at least a month before making a solid personal conclusion.

  12. Trading in the stock market

Do you trade in the stock market? I'm not talking mutual funds, but actual shares of stock? What are some good stocks you have? Do you go for growth or dividends? I have a few stocks, and my son just got into investing so I opened a custodial account for him where he's doing pretty well with low-priced companies. How about you?

  13. The 2014 Cold and Flu Thread

Everyone's going to get it -- and I got mine. I've been home from work all week. Last night, full-fledged laryngitis struck. And I tweaked my ribs during a 4 AM coughing fit. Other than that, life's great! Hot liquids are the bomb! Who's ready to whine with me? Who's ready to post some symptom-alleviators?
