Songs Game 2.0
Right now I have "lean like a cholo" stuck in my head.
It's the one that goes, "elbows up, side to side".
Anyone else have a song stuck in their head?
Some years ago, I faced up to the futility of reporting true things about America’s disastrous wars and so I left Afghanistan for another remote mountainous country far away. It was the polar opposite of Afghanistan: a peaceful, prosperous land where nearly everybody seemed to enjoy a good life, on the job and in the family.
It’s true that they didn’t work much, not by American standards anyway. In the US, full-time salaried workers supposedly laboring 40 hours a week actually average 49,...
58 years old. Yankee career that was regrettably too short. The '85 Yankees will frustrate me until I'm dead.
Let us all quietly (or very noisily) escort that brutal beyotch that is/was 2016 out the door, and welcome in 2017. Get out the noisemakers, hats, glasses and party, party, party!!! :gulp::O :P
Please get home safely, take a cab, bus, train or use a designated driver.
I figure that this has been one monumental year as far as those who have passed on. We have, amongst the most notable names:
Her heart must've been broken. :(
I'd like to extend my warmest wishes for my fellow posters and their families to have the most wonderful Christmas ever!!
Hope Santa gets you everything you asked for too.
To all my Jewish friends (aka, members of the Tribe), I give you your own thread dedicated to the religion where the Torah is read, a strict diet is enforced, and for which there have been many adherents. Whether you are Reform, Conservative, Orthodox or ultra-Orthodox, I say to one and all:
On this 2nd day of the 8-day Festival of Lights, please enjoy.
Let the airing of grievances and feats of strength begin! I got a lot of problems with you people...
If you don't know who she is, read this. Everyone should know.
Read the whole article. She was amazing.
Didn't see if there was a new thread for books in 2016 so I'm starting it.
Currently reading The Pentagon's Brain: An Uncensored History of DARPA, America's Top Secret Military Research Agency and when I want something lighter I have When to Rob a Bank which is a collection of blog posts by the guys behind Freakonomics. Finally I'm listening to the audiobook of Wolf Hall which I'm finding very hard to follow. Has anyone else read it?
The keynote starts in an hour. Rumor has it that this will be a ho-hum, version, with the big changes coming next year on the iPhone 8.
The iPhone 7 is rumored to bring a faster processor (which is always the case), better camera, and a haptic home button. There will still be a home button, but rather than it being physically depressed, it will only give the perception that it is through touch force. Also, it appears that Apple is doing away with the speaker jack, the phone now utilizing...
An American hero.
I figure there's enough of us watching and talking about it for it's own thread.
I really enjoy it so far but the biggest complaint is how noncommital they are with the rules of the park. Luckily the internet exists.
Then there's 8 Westworld theories from the first two episodes:
And here's to many more!!!
No, seriously. Today is Soriambi's actual birthday. This one isn't a joke. Really.
Happy birthday, Kevin!
I've told my close friends and I don't wanna go sharing on facebook, so I figure I'd tell you folks since I feel closer to you than a lot of other people (even those of you I hate  ).
Last Sunday night I caught my girlfriend of 4 years cheating on me. I was actually gonna propose to her this Christmas. It's been 4 days since I've left her and it's not getting any better for me. I feel completely ruined and lost. All I can think about is how perfect our relationship was our first two...
Not an entirely fair question for most of you who weren't around then.
On that Friday my wife, Nancy, and I had been married for four months. We both had agreed not to have a TV so that we can better get to know each other more.
We were living in a small three room apartment in Somerville, NJ. We were both working at Johns Manville Research Center in Finderne. That lunchtime we went home together for lunch .
When we returned from lunch at around 1:30 PM we saw a group of our colleagues...
