Longest Thread Ever 5.0
I have seen we have various threads about computer help, what to buy? various terms, differences between MAC and PC, I made this thread for anyone that wants some of us with computer experience to answer some of those who need some advice or help trouble shooting..
There are a bunch of people who frequent this Forum who's first name I know. There are countless others that I have no idea what their first name is.
Couple that with the hundreds upon hundreds of new people who have registered that would have no idea who people are... I thought it would be a good idea for a Thread where people (who wish to divulge this information) give their first name. This is not to be a joke Thread, please be serious and only respond if you wish to give your name.
So today I made a change that I knew was coming for quite a while: at his own request, Bub has been made a regular, non-admin, member of the NYYF community. Bob has been hugely responsible for the tenor and success of this site. He even delayed his retirement from NYYF Adminship for a year to help keep track of new users and other site matters. The role of "Administrator" here on the forum is something I protect quite closely, and Bob is the only other person I've given those keys to. He has...
This game starts with a poster putting up the name of a song and who recorded it. The next poster uses a word from the preceding song title to post a new song, and so on.
First poster: Drive My Car - The Beatles
Next poster: Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
I'll start the game with:
Maynerd has given permission to start this thread, so long as it discusses current events. Don't start name-calling candidates or each other, or it will get shut down. Don't be buttheads and ruin it, please.
Apparently the GOP is planning for a brokered convention, since they have so many candidates. Personally, I'm still hoping that DT runs as an independent. That would be epic.
One for the movies and now one for TV shows :D
Anyone watch "Psych", the new show on USA? I like it quite a bit. It's pretty funny.
Also, anyone watch Hell's Kitchen?
Usually I quote either "unearned suffering" or "dangerous unselfishness." But in light of the conversations some of us have been having over the last year, in response to the idea that racism is over because we had eight years of a black president, and to counter the image that MLK believed that the antidote for racism was simply to stop looking at skin color:
Someone died who didn't deserve their own thread...
This pretty much says it for me:
The nation is soon to be under the aegis of an unstable, unqualified, undignified demagogue and with Republicans in control of both houses of Congress, there is little that can be done to constrict or control his power and unpredictability.
It’s like seeing an ominous weight swinging toward a limb, sure to break it, while you feel utterly helpless to prevent the fracture.
As the exiting first lady Michelle Obama told Oprah last week: “We’re feeling...
Once upon a time, we had a thread on Education. I can't seem to find it...it was likely in the old Political Soapbox. Regardless, increasingly, we've seen discussion of education show up in the Election thread. Probably not the right venue. So, allow me to create a space to discuss our educational system.
Is what we're doing in Public Education the right route? Should we have educational standards? Is it OK to leave some children behind? What should we be doing, as a society, to...
Google Chrome is blocking the "The "I just saw a movie that doesn't warrant its own thread" (Version 2.0)" thread to me:
where I can't view or reply to the thread anymore. In case anyone else has that problem I thought maybe we should start a new thread here... Version 3.0
I'm so sick of this garbage. Sick of it. It makes me ashamed to be American.
Has anyone here done this or the similar 23 and Me? Any surprises? I just got my kit in the mail and will be mailing it back tomorrow.
muggs asked for it...:)
Love or hate for Citizen Kane? Going to watch 12 Angry Men on Sunday?
Use this thread for your love of classic movies!
It's a long off season with no baseball, and it's a long season when it's back on. So, any time is a good time for jokes. I wish I could tell you all that I knew a lot of them, but I don't. I am good at laughing, though. Post the ones that have made you laugh. I guess we have to keep them pretty clean, but let the good times roll.
Now this might wind up being a thread for just me and Rhodey. But I think at this point this should deserves it's own thread that we can go back to every time a new season starts up.
As per usual, previews of this season show that there will be lots of fighting/crying/hookups/drama.
The format for the new season is that former exes have been paired up as teammates and will be forced to work together.
As a CT fan I will be pulling for CT and Diem, but I would be surprised to see Abram...
New thread for the new year I guess.
I'm 90% sure none of my history classes in HS or college even mentioned Henry Wallace.
Seems like a cool guy. Just ordered American Dreamer: A Life of Henry A. Wallace.
It's also way past time to read a good Teddy Roosevelt biography. If anyone has a suggestion on that front, I'd be glad to hear it.
I can't quite see her stomping all over Trump if she were mayor, but the thought is delightful and I'd vote for her.
From political circles in New York City to cocktail parties on Capitol Hill, on right-of-center Facebook pages and among left-of-center donors, two of the biggest untethered threads in New York politics are being drawn together around a single question.
Would Hillary Clinton run for mayor?
The prospect has an obvious, novelistic allure: A run for mayor of New York this...

People magazine reporting Carrie Fisher has passed away.
Right now I have "lean like a cholo" stuck in my head.
It's the one that goes, "elbows up, side to side".
Anyone else have a song stuck in their head?
Some years ago, I faced up to the futility of reporting true things about America’s disastrous wars and so I left Afghanistan for another remote mountainous country far away. It was the polar opposite of Afghanistan: a peaceful, prosperous land where nearly everybody seemed to enjoy a good life, on the job and in the family.
It’s true that they didn’t work much, not by American standards anyway. In the US, full-time salaried workers supposedly laboring 40 hours a week actually average 49,...
58 years old. Yankee career that was regrettably too short. The '85 Yankees will frustrate me until I'm dead.
