Cashman talks deadline, contracts
Before yesterday’s game against the Angels, general manager Brian Cashman spoke with Marc Carig about some pressing topics, mostly the trade deadline. Here’s a quick rundown of what the GM is thinking these days.
First and foremost, Cashman says the Yankees aren’t eager to pay deadline prices to acquire “marginal” upgrades for the team. No surprise there, of course. Though the Yankees are going to be tied to just about every big name and starting pitcher on the market, it’s important to remember that they haven’t gotten to the top of the mountain by accident. They’ve already got a very strong roster, so it’s going to cost a lot to make any more than marginal upgrades.
